What better soap to use with a hunk of steel than Tallow and Steel? The scent on this one is pretty subtle to me, but I like it. Had a good shave going with it until I got bitten on setdown on pass 3. Nothing major, so hopefully my wife won’t see it and give me the eye roll and look of disdain. Of course, focusing her disdain on this rather than some of my other antics might not be a bad strategic play...

Anyway, it’s that third pass (E-W) that still needs some work. Holding the blade handle out of the way (straight rather than perpendicular to the blade) is making the grip tricky, so I tried going “full open” on the blade (as below) for the last few stokes. This helped keep the blade steady a bit. Do any of you experienced dark siders use this technique? If not, what ones do you use? 5F5339B4-C9DD-4950-8603-69CC17DF8AC7.jpeg

Wonderful photo Randy. You are making real progress with the SR.

That possibility never even crossed my mind. Which, I suppose, is how most CTs happen... :(

Excellent photo, Randy! I can give no advice on the use of a straight razor though.

Thanks, guys! What was absolutely funny to me was that the homemade pain stick actually was easier to use than my CJB. Glenn talks about straights as the ultimate adjustable, and one of the things I love is being able to dial in the angle. The painsticks I have used, similar to most DEs actually limit how much angle you can use. I was able to get a shallow enough angle to make the Dorco blades smooth with this contraption. I may have to try it with an injector blade as well.

I have used the way you had it in the last picture some on my neck, but I don't feel like I have a lot of control. The biggest thing for me is that I don't hold the scales. I only hold the tang of the razor. I move the scales to different places to balance razor, but I never hold them. I also have accepted that some of the ATG work that needs to be done on my neck for a perfect shave can't be done with a straight. Its always those spots that get a lot of irritation and ingrown hairs anyway, so I normally go for DFS on the neck, and BBS everywhere else.

So I ended up making a pain stick that will take various blades. I may have to see if I can create my own blade to get a true "beer can" shave. Top or bottom of the can. Just have to hammer it flat and sharpen it.

Finally, a way to save money wet shaving! And the pain stick, in its original form, comes with the bonus of free beer!

Sounds about the same, actually. 'No warning, just blood' describes it very well.

What a simple, stunning photo, Clint!
Yup, a great shaver. You've also done a good job of 'propping it up' in the photo. Those of us who have one know it has a rounded bottom...
    Nice B&W, Perry!
Cool looking colours, Andrew! Even the Trac II looks cool in that pic...
Wow. I don't know what the contest is, Adam, but whatever it is, you win.
I didn't really like the WD brush I bought. The HMB knot was set to 10mm depth. When I bashed out the knot and reset it to 15mm in a different handle, it quickly became a favourite.
Mr. Dressup! You might have to explain that one to our fine friends from south of the 49th...

Great job with the straight, Randy! A fine pic as well.

    Good evening
After coming home after a grueling long day at work,I was greeted with a pleasant surprise. My girlfriend and daughter decided to tidy up the bathroom/shave den and must say did a wonderful job.

So for this I took them out to supper .
Checked the mailbox on the way home and got another surprise. The Muhle brush I won from the very generous pif from John@screwtape was in the box . And.....he also added 2 tubs of sandlewood soaps to the package. ToBS and Simpsons. After the ladies smelled it I was convinced to shave even though i was ready for bed after a long day. Whipped out the Simpsons, face lathered with the sweet sweet Muhle synthetic and chose my Gillete Tech for the tool of choice . Nice 2 passer and splashed some Gillette as to boot. Im beat and heading for bed . Will attempt to catch up on over 100 posts later . Good night and Thanks again John for your kindness and generosity. 15259119834032.jpg 15259119834032.jpg
