Yes, Yankeeb if you take it apart again and just unscrew the handle enough so there is clearance, spin your dial with the numbers around. Then screw it back down. There is a small flange that serves as a stop and you have it on the wrong side. Do not get frustrated as it may take you one or two times to figure it out the first time. Just make sure that it is screwed down all of the way so that the gap is consistent. Look at the side to see if cradled properly.

Here is a picture of the bottom blade tray seated properly in the cradle of the Futur. A picture is worth..............oh, maybe someone already said that.:happy102

Also, if you look closely at the small gap where the top of the razor fits on to the handle below the dial, you can see the stop that I mentioned. Just move the head to the other side and see if that works.

Thank you so much Dougr. It took a few tries and because of Arthritis I had to ask my wife to help but we got it done. That is a tough little spring they use in the Futur. The gap appears to be better know also. :thanks

Today I went ahead and dialed it to 5, did one pass against the grain with a brand new German Wilkinson Sword and Cella. Then dialed it down to 2 completed 2 passes against the grain. For the finale I completed one more against the grain, and used king of shaves shave oil. I really feel I got a nice BBS this morning. I do see some problems with using shave oil.

First its messy, second It does gum up your razor, third it makes your razor too slippery to handle, I had to brush some cream on my hand and wash it along with my razors handle. then at the end I applied more shaving cream just to wash off the remaining oil off my face. I would use oil again but maybe not on a daily basis.

Good morning Mynorx, you red devil, I had the same problem and use Vit.E liquid now after shaving. I had some surgery for skin cancer and the surgeon recomended using it so I bought a couple of bottles for $8 each and use it after shaving four or five days a week now. It lasts forever. Went to the 2/4 on my Futur but got it backwards and shaved on 4 first. Worked GREAT...,.

Hi, I think you got it right, Shave at 4 setting first across or with the grain then dial it down to 2 then against the grain.

this morning I did the usual but also did a final pass on 1 with the grain, no oil only water and very light cream just to add a bit more slickness.
Got just as good of a shave with out the oil. I think the oil works good and makes your skin soft but its messy. And of course finished off with some skin bracer.

Wow, shaving at 4 or 5 with the Futur! I have some open combs that are not that aggressive. Since Dougr was kind enough to help me correct my calabration problems with my Futur I managed a comfortable shave at 1.5 setting. I applied a little Cade after shave Balm and my skin felt great. That shea butter works great for me.

Hi ...I am just as addicted to my Futur as anyone! Own FOUR! (one of each:satin/chrome/gold,brand new,in-the-box),all bought to complete the "set".The fourth (a satin), is the razor of choice for daily shaving.Being set @ number 5,with a Derby blade,WTG pass, gives the best finish I have had.
I believe any bad reviews of this razor is more to do with users "rushing",applying pressure (don't use ANY!) and not taking the time to master the technique required.
Simply Superb cutting machine! Will NEVER go "cold turkey" and stop using! Just L-O-V-E this razor!

I just got mine a few weeks ago, I also received a few different blades at the same time so I have been testing those. I finally tried my all time favorite blades with it, Iridiums last week which are superb with this razor. yesterday 7 O'clock yellows which where awesome as well. I think you are correct that too many noobs jump in and buy this razor first and don't give it time to get their technique down. I really like shaving with different settings.

I am a known "Futur-Addict"! I now have mine set at "6" for maximum closeness. No cuts/rashes/burns - but only because I cover my face with a Palmolive stick AND put a dab of Ingrams on each cheek & my neck, and work my lather to a really thick, creamy state, before even attempting the first pass.Also...using NO pressure on the blade head(letting its' weight shave - not me),and taking my time ...virtually ensures a pain-free exercise.
Truly great razor! The bad press this razor receives is merely due to bad technique.

We need some sort of award for you ADD....a Futur on 6 has been declared a "murder weapon and then to have four in different finishes means you are our hero (probably divorced but still the mark to hit):1respect

I just found a beautiful blade for my futur, they are the voskhod blades I got from latvia, I truly believe this blade can easily replace my beloved iridium supers they may even be better.

I have only used 2 blades until now. Those things are SMOOTH and SHARP. Yesterday my wife looked at my face and she "said what the heck, how come your face seems to have a luster to it". I had some serious BBS going on

The only thing I had applied to that point was some Skin Bracer. I'm just going to stock up on these babies.

I don't use the futur on just one setting I love the way you can dial it in, depending on what part of the face you are working on. The futur is the most awesomest razor. If you guys get a chance try the voskhod blades.

+9,000,000,000 - Voskhod is a fantastic blade. I bought 100 of them and have 1000 more on the way. Shipping is quite fast too considering the distance.

    Futur??? Outstanding Razor

A few weeks ago I received my Futur. I was a little scared about the topics in ALL the dedicated forums regarding the aggression and the utility of this razor, therefore initially I wanted to buy a Fatboy, but now I am so glad I didn't. I
I've been shaving with a straight razor (5/8 Carl Rader) for a couple of years, therefore I was used with the force of a blade. When I received the Futur, I set it on 3 and take it to a ride on my face and man, I was surprised. I didn't realized the shaving was so smooth and easy. I wasn't enchanted, so I changed the setup to 5 in order to be closer to a straight and the answer was YES! That was the real thing. I had a small beard for a couple of years (I promised my wife to take it down when this thing will arrive), and it goes through it like it was butter. 3 passes with all the enchilada and BBS was there.
I really don't know what on earth makes people scared about this razor, because I strongly believe it's an outstanding piece of manufacture and highly recommend it. I bought it new from Niven&Joshua at the lowest price on the internet (39,50 pounds!!!) and these guys really do their job well done. :shocked003

Nice to have the both of you guys on the Futur Bandwagon. Remember you can dial it in depending on what part of the face you are working on. Try different settings throughout your shave.

I own/use the Merkur 34 HD,an EJ 89L,a Muhle R106 ...all "top class" beard cutters - but none come close to the excellent Futur.
I use mine dialed up to 6.5 (max) - and suffer NO cuts, burn or rash. How come?
...firstly - DO NOT USE ANY PRESSURE! The weight of the razor head resting and gliding across your face is enough.
...secondly - GO SLOW! If you rush - fail to take your time - then disaster is assured! Cuts WILL follow!
...thirdly - CONCENTRATE - when this beast is set at anywhere ABOVE 3,it begins to resemble a cut-throat.Think about what you are doing.
...and finally - PREPARE! Use a good soap stick on your face (Palmolive),AND a dab of shaving cream (Ingrams) on each cheek, and one on the neck.Weild a brush till you get a lovely rich, thick lather - THEN shave!
The "poor press" this excellent razor gets is mainly due to new DE shavers being ambitious and not using the "weapon" correctly.
I own FOUR Futurs! Three brand new - in box - (satin/chrome/gold),and one, another satin,in daily use.
Just LOVE this wonderful example of Germanic engineering!Enjoy!

So..since I am a guy who has not tried a Futur, but cranks my Progress to 5+ and have been looking at a Vision.... what can I expect on the Progress / Futur / Vision scale when they are slammed wide open???

[EDIT] Before I sold both of my FatBoy's. I always slammed them to 9...
