Todays shave with GMS Lavender Grapefruit was very nice. Can't add more than Richard has in the Original Post. For me I used my Semogue BC Mistura ( Badger / Boar mix) and it lathered up loads of thick, creamy, slick lather. I used my Cobra so it was a 2 pass shave but I had plenty for 2 more passes the lather had great cushion and glide. The scent was still noticeable but not overwhelming during the shave pretty much dissipates after the shave. I like it a bunch and it is a great soap. I could easily recommend it. I know I will definitely be buying some more in 2015 when I am done with my soap sabbatical.
Honestly, this is a soap I had difficultly with. Great scent with disappearing lather. Normally I don't have problems lathering soap but I can't seem to get a stable lather with this one. I'm sure it's me and not the soap but I haven't been able to figure this one out. If you have any tips I'm all ears.
It's a thirsty soap. Strange as I had no problems. I don't know if I have hard water and if that makes a difference. Lather was stable throughout the whole shave. Yesterday when I test lathered I loaded my Simpson P8 in best heavily with the soap, I always load heavily no need to budget with the amount of soap I have and I got a good stable lather with dipping my brush in the water as I palmed lathered till the point that it was yogurt like and added more water to see how much it could take before it would break down but it kept on producing more thick lather I was very impressed. Sorry to hear about your problem with it. I just received it on Monday maybe you got a bad batch?
I have not tried this one yet, but some triple milled soaps I have tried need a "break-in" period before you really experience what they are about.
I'm pretty sure it's me and not a bad batch. I always figured if you can lather modern Williams your good to go but I've had a couple of soaps I've had problems lathering.
I've found that when I have problems lathering a certain soap, it's because I'm not picking up enough product on my brush(es). I use Rooney soft badger brushes and I have zero problems loading the soft Italian croaps, etc. But some of some of the denser artisan soaps after they've been smooshed into a container, it's difficult for my brush to pick up enough soap sometimes. Soooo, some time ago, I started using soap pucks, like Mystic Water, Sterling, etc. like a shave stick. I just rub the soap bar over my face and let my whiskers pick up the soap and then I just face lather as usual. "Rub the puck on your face."
I tried lathering it just like I do Williams (a wet brush and a lot of soap) and it worked. I'll test it out again for tomorrow morning for my SOTD.
Worked fine this morning and had a good shave. The way I'm lathering it with a wet brush sure eats up soap but that's not a bad thing. Normally, I expect a puck of Williams to last about 2 weeks with this method.
