I'm almost sure they don't inspect any part before shipping because I'm not the first person who had to send the razor back. At least two other members on this forum alone have previously sent back their razors. The handle has numerous scratches and some tiny dings. This is just one area of the handle but whole handle has similar dings and scratches. The handle is just mess like Darkbulb's pictures. The head only had one deep scratch. I would had kept the head but since the handle is already going back why not send the whole razor.
Sorry for your misfortune. The scratch on the head looks worse to me than the head looks worse to me and is clearly from mishandling. I think the quality control has taken a hit as they have tried to ramp up production. I know it's a hassle but they will make it right in the end. I am hoping that my AlumiGoose head is in good shape when it arrives.
Mark, thanks for posting the pictures. Huge weight savings. I am pleased that the screw in the AlumiGoose head is steel so I can use my custom handles without fear.
All of the 3 B2s I have had, 2 satin and 1 polished, were flawless. I just home the AlumiGoose arrives safely and with no issues.
+1 for sure. Maybe I'll dodge the hassle. I know Mark's AlumiGoose was shipped out of South Florida and mine out of MA. Mine appears to have fallen off tracking between Boston and Atlanta.
I think that might be part of the overall problems we are seeing with things slipping through the cracks.
Top and bottom plate dimensions by themselves were OK but upon putting them together on each other, the bottom plate edge on mine was uneven on one side, right edge was sticking out about 1mm longer. When top and bottom plates on each other, they were not parallel to each other no matter how differently I tried. Even from back side they looked nonparallel. For the money, this is unacceptable. Mongoose manufacturing quality is slowly going down the drain. I would have been very disappointed even if the cosmetic condition was excellent.
What do you mean by non parallel? when you looked at it from the back was there more gap between the plates on one side?
I am not so sure about the manufacturing quality going down hill recently. Most of you are were not around or involved in the Batch 2 roll out. At that time entire production runs had to be returned. I think the real change has taken place in the inspection process. In the beginning Bruce and Matt, the owners of Mongoose would inspect each item as it arrived from the manufacturer. Thus entire production runs being returned. I know they both have full time demanding careers and may have delegated responsibility to others to inspect. I feel that product is being shipped without proper inspection. I agree they need to get a handle on that part of the process for sure
An illustration is an easy way for me to explain. Dotted lines are the bottom plate. The "tilt" in the illustration looks exaggerated but the razor didn't look this bad. That's why I noted "1 mm". As a result of this "tilt" the right edge was sticking out 1 mm longer than the left side. Loading a blade in razor made this issue easier to notice. I don't know if this ~1 mm glitch is common in Mongoose razors. I didn't shave with it so I don't know if it makes a difference in using the razor.
Tuesday, December 8, 2015 AlumiGoose with Triad Ti Helix Hex Feather Pro #1 Varlet Orion Tabac Shave Soap Alum, Witch Hazel +Menthol, Whipped Cucumber Melon Shea Butter Tabac Aftershave Today’s shave was a beautiful two passes and clean up. Closeness A+, Irritation A. I caught the baby with a brand new razor. The first thing noticed about the alumigoose is, it’s light. The Shiny Head weighs 19.2 grams. I decided to use a titanium handle for added weight and a better grip. The second thing I noticed was increased audio and tactile feedback from the razor. I could hear and feel the whiskers being sliced off, down to individual hairs. I shaved with the lightest touch. It was hard to believe it was a Goose. The Alumigoose shaves at least well as, and possibly better than its predecessor. Tabac is a friendly old scent for me. The Soap is easy lathering, thick creamy and very slick. Ended this shave with a good splash of Tabac Aftershave. I’m ready to Rock N’ Roll. Have a good Tuesday folks.
