First shave with the satin mongoose. Mongoose + Kai Titan Mild blade. 3 pass BBS. Mitchell's Wool Fat Whipped Dog silvertip Maggard alum block 91% rubbing alcohol as test aftershave. No burn at all. Pinaud clubman Most of my shaves are straight razor shaves. The Kai blade did an incredible job, but next is the Feather Pro. I think I will like more feedback from the blade.
The AlumiGoose head arrived today. Everything was in great condition. Pictured with a Triad Titanium handle.
Very nice. I am looking forward to reading about your take on it - and of course how it compares directly to its SS brother.
second shave with the ...Goose: Feather Professional blade. 3 pass. BBS. Nice auditory feedback as it cut through, more than the Kai mild. MWF lather. Whipped dog synthetic brush Maggard alum block high octane aftershave. No burn whatsoever.
12/10/2015 Razor – AlumiGoose A1 with Triad Ti Blade – Feather Super Pro (1) Brush – Romera Olivewood Synthetic Lather – Route 66 Lumberjack Post - Witch Hazel and Fine Platinum I received very fortunate two receive to items yesterday. The USPS delayed AlumiGoose and an unexpected gift of Route 66 Lumberjack from @Douglas Carey. I apologize but I was weak and broke the focus on vintage razors for today. Reading the label "Lumberjack" of soap I expected the typical woodsy cedar and pine scent. I was very surprised by the complex scent that greeted me opening the buck. Sure it has the expected notes of fir and such but they along with fruit blending into a really fantastic scent. So it smells great but does it work? Yes even better than it smells. Using my favorite synthetic brush, I loaded up the soap for maybe 30 seconds or so and began face lathering. The lather immediately exploded into a rich thick lather. This stuff is seriously easy to lather and the performance during the shave was even better. Thank you Doug for such a nice thoughtful gift. I know I will enjoy this for some time to come. After being delayed in the USPS Black Hole, the AlumiGoose arrived a day later than expected. I only got the head since the complete razor option was sold out in minutes. Loaded with a fresh Feather Super Pro blade and paired with my favorite handle, the razor is very light weighing barely more than the Mongoose B2 head alone. I went with a 2 pass shave, XTG and ATG. The AlumiGoose was much louder than the B2 as it mowed down the whiskers. I decided to chase the baby and with touch ups in the trouble spots, I got a BBS shave on the first outing with this razor. I think I have winner in the AlumiGoose. I already know what my January Focus will be. Finished off with a splash of Fine Platinum and I think I am ready for the day. At least I am well shaven. Hope everyone has a great Thursday.
Despite a recent 'perspective setting' on what matters in life and where my money should go, I caved in: Satin Mongoose ordered. That's my Christmas gift for myself. Asked about the alumi and OC ones, too, though, which was not mentioned in the response email from the Mongoose team. As far as I have understood, the alumigoose was produced in a limited quantity (offered only to existing customers?), but the OC is still to come? Those who have used the aluminum one: How does it compare to the SS? @clint64 ?
I really didn't have time this morning to pull mine out. But as you can see in the picture below, my B2 does not show that gap.
I have a Satin B2. The biggest difference I noticed with the AlumiGoose is the weight. The head alone is close to 1/3 of the weight of the SS head. This gives the AlumiGoose a different feel as you shave. Due to the material difference, I get more audible feedback from the AlumiGoose. With only 1 shave on the AlumiGoose I really can not see a difference in the shave or the results between the two. I hope that helps.
Hey! I am a new member and excited to join the Mongoose club! Any good websites to order custom handles? I found a few handles here and there but no sure if they will find the Mongoose head. Thanks!
Thanks to Clint I was able to try a feather super pro blade. Very nice 2 pass BBS on 3 days of growth. Thanks again.
Menthol Monday, December 14, 2015 Alumigoose (not pictured) w TRIAD Rolling Hex Ti Feather Pro #2 Doug Korn Taca 2 TGN HMW @Douglas Carey Route 66 SS Frozen Margaritas Alum, Sterling MITA Witch Hazel, Gold Bond Green Lotion Chiseled Face Cryogen Aftershave The Alumigoose continues to impress. Two passes plus clean up closeness A irritation A. Light as a feather, but still a Mongoose. Lather was a Christmas present from @Douglas Carey. Thanks Doug! Scratch one from the top of my list. @Salty Belle Route 66 Soap Frozen Margaritas is an outstanding performer, a medium face freezer with a great scent, some where between the Glacials and Krampert’s Frostbite on the ‘Menthol Monday Scale’. The lather was colder for the second pass. Note: TGN HMW has less backbone than TGN Finest at comparable lofts. My face was so cold I could barely feel the alum, the MITA Witch Hazel added more freeze, and the Gold Bond Green was a soothing chill down. Finished with a big splash of Cryogen. Ooo, la la! Have a good Monday and a great week all.
