I haven't tried Mongoose yet due to QC issues I'm unfortunately faced with. In the meantime I came across Schick Injector E and G series razors, and with them I got THE best BBS on my neck and some problem spots. These razors feel so easy and intuitive to use, shaving gets done very fast. They are also the most nimble and maneuverable razors I've ever used, and I've used everything DE and SE. Too bad Schick doesn't make them anymore. Wishing you a speedy and a lasting recovery.
Thank you. I did a search on those injector razors. The G series looks very nice. It never ends, does it?
As been called out in this thread earlier, Mongoose has, at least temporarily, suspended international shipments. This is from Mongoose: "We're hoping it's temporary. Sadly we've had many issues in the past few weeks with shipments getting "lost". It seems local postal systems don't often bother putting the USPS tracking info on the packages once they take them into their possession. As such, there's no way of knowing what happened to the package once it arrives in country. The USPS can show they handed it off to the local PO, so they refuse any insurance claim, and being a foreign entity trying to pursue a claim against a foreign PO is nearly impossible. We've lost thousands of dollars due to this issue - we don't know if the packages have delivered or were stolen, but PayPal always reverses the payment to the buyer. "
Update: Well, just heard back from them not two minutes ago with what sounds like good news: "We believe we may have found a solution, but it will end up costing more for the shipping and insurance. But, at least we can keep shipping out of the US."
I flip my blades over in the Mongoose after each shave, thinking that each side of the blade should be used. Anybody else do this? Does it make a difference?
It's a topic that comes up with some frequency for any razor with replaceable blades. Personally I don't and it's questionable how it can make any difference as you shave with the edge of the blade and not a particular side of it. Having said that - it can't possibly hurt so if you feel as if it benefits you there is no reason not to do it
Well, it's good to know that I am not the only one with OCD. Ha. I will experiment with this blade and see if its life is extended by the process.
Those blades last pretty long anyway and I personally would rather handle the blade as little as possible, that's just me though..
I should have done a search on this topic. The overall consensus agrees with yours. My flipping days are over.
@Darkbulb Sign me up for this club My birthday gift from my older brother and his wife has arrived! And thanks to @RaZorBurn123 that gifted me a few blades, i can use it right away =D
Quite a few shaves down with the 'goose now, and have gone through most of the blades in the sampler pack, only Captain Original and ProTouch left unused. And that's the thing: According to everyone else (or so it seems), I should only have been on my second blade by now, not my fifth! I notice a rapid deterioration in shave quality after the first shave to the extent that after the third use, I really have to switch. (Kamisori blade wasn't even comfy on shave one, Feather proguard was fab on first shave but not on third, Feather Pro Super was too aggressive, Captain Mild and Feather Pro were best all over.) in comparison, a Polsilver DE in my Gillette New Easily gives me 5+ shaves from the same blade. What's wrong with me here? Still on a learning curve? I seem to recall a similar experience with another SE blade (in the Shick Inj Adjustable). Oh, and @Omelmad Congrats on your latest acquisition!
I have found the Feather blades last longer than their Kai counterparts. I get 7 shaves on the Feather Pro and 12-14 shaves on the Feather Super. I will say that when I first started with the Mongoose the blades seemed to fall off more quickly. As my technique improved the blade life increased. For a reference point, I get 3 shaves out of a Feather in my DE razors. I doubt that all your blades have been duds, I am curious if the blade sampler pack did not protect the edge as well.
Thanks, Clint. I'll put this on technique, then (and will order more Feather Pros). To the credit of the Supers, I did get a borderline BBS and a good post-shave feel after a quadruple-pass shave on a two days' growth. (Stirling provides ample cushion!)
I have found a couple of things that help me have better shaves with the Mongoose. First, I get better shaves with a thinner slicker lather rather than a thicker lather. It just seems to make the razor glide better and shave closer and also makes rinsing easier. Second, I have found that longer shave strokes work better for me compared to the shorter strokes I would use with a DE razor. Certainly your experience may be different. A case of YMMV. Also, with a new blade, I start with either a XTG or even an ATG pass as the first pass. Again YMMV.
Kerry sent me 10 Feather artist club Professional and 1 Kai captain Titan protouch. I'm very grateful for these blades. It's a big plus that I already know that the Feather pro works well for me =) they are the least expensive ones on a Swedish website. But they do NOT sell samplers
