I'll let you know when the super blades get here. Could be a tie though both are fantastic with different qualities.
I think owning this razor is like being in a relationship with a very passionate person. The experience can be captivating, but give them what they want, how they want it, or there will be bloodshed. It is amazing how much of a difference there is from one blade to another. It can get from amazing to terrible pretty quick if you hold it at the wrong angle, or use too much pressure. I wonder if this is why they came out with an aluminum version. Using a delicate touch with such a heavy tool takes some real practice.
This was my TGIF shave today, the Feather pro super blades arrived for the grey goose tomorrow. Today was excellent great soap great AS....
Do you guys put a little pressure with the mongoose? or do you go with the "No pressure" Rule? Some people say you need to apply a little pressure with these thicker blades
Other than the width of the razor head, I shave with the Mongoose the same as any other razor. I will say that the V1 AlumiGoose requires a very light touch since it is a little more aggressive than my B2 Mongoose.
I bought the Mongoose several months ago when I had to put down the straight razors due to an eye problem. I had eye surgery on Tue. and I am looking forward to getting back into the straights within the next week or two. But, I have enjoyed the Goose so much that it will remain a frequent member of the shave rotation.
The stainless steel mongoose certainly doesn't require any pressure - the razor weighs 5 oz! If anything, I use negative pressure - balancing the razor in my hand so that only part of its weight is applied to the head. The Alumigoose is a different story. With the handle I'm using my V2 weighs about the same as some injectors, so light pressure is required, otherwise it doesn't cut anything. --Bob
Can you elaborate on "balancing the razor in my hand so that only part of its weight is applied to the head." Maybe a picture or something. Do you mean holding the razor more towards the head?
The Alumigoose is pretty sweet with a super pro but the blade shot craps after 5 shaves. I finished today's shave with the B3 and a pro blade, nice and smooth. So far the B3 is a smoother razor and the pro blade in that razor lasts much longer.
New 'batch' of Mongoose are on sale at Maggard, does anyone know if these are any different than B3 (i.e. design changes)? I have a B3 and hoping the titanium goose comes out soon, and was wondering if this new batch currently on sale was different (and so in turn the ti-goose would possibly be different too).
THE GOOSE HAS LANDED!!!! Alumigoose has just arrived! Add me to list please! Pictures/first shave/ and thoughts coming at some point today.
