FWIW, I'm a fairly new DE shaver (only since February 2022) and I actually really like the R41 (current 2013 version). There's nothing to fear and much to be gained. I prefer a steep angle and it gives me very close and comfortable shaves.
I liked the standard R41 so much that I got the R41 GS (grande, stainless steel). For me this is a beautiful razor that performs as well or better than it looks!
