I assume the reference to Firebouse is their Wacky Tacky product? Swarden, I'm Sweltering in Seattle! Throw me a bone please, where/how can I get this miracle Dirigo Blue? "I'm melting...melting...mel "
Yes, Firehouse Wacky Tacky. Excellent stuff. For those who don't know, Dirigo Blue is the name brand for my homemade 'stache wax, pre-shave oil, and home roasted coffee. Nothing for sale, just for fun. "Dirigo" is Maine's state motto. I'm originally from Maine, Van Buren to be exact. "Blue" because I'm a big fan of the blues (especially the old Mississippi Delta blues) and it sounded good for the name. Dear Sweltering in Seattle, send me a PM with name and address.
I missed the posts on this thread. I didn't end up remixing the wax. I had an incident with some very nasty lake mud the weekend of the fourth that ended up with me hitting my mustache with a number 1 clipper blade to get rid of the stench. One of the things I am trying to avoid is having to use a blow dryer to set the wax, but it looks like if I am wanting a really strong hold, that may be the way to go. I will try it again in a few months.
I had to look this thread up to find the recipe I used to make my own mustache wax. I have the Dirigo Blue, Badger Brand, and my homemade stuff. Need to add a little more wax to the blend to make it stiffer. Still have way more than I need though, and adding more wax is going to make it last even longer.
Try this - I know my Dirigo Blue is super stiff. I also know that Badger Brand is way too soft for my liking. Try mixing the two.
Last week I killed the goat but kept the stash. After about four months it's considerable. No m-wax as such on hand so I broke out my old Krew Comb Stick. The texture's a bit grainy upon application but rubbed with fingers it warms and melts in just fine. Good hold so far, fairly stiff but not extremely so. Don't know how long it'll hold up the baby (1/3") handlebars I got going on. Beats using Chapstick anyway.
