My record label seemed determined to keep this album buried in Turkey...Finally its available internationally on itunes: itunes.apple.com/album/from-the-moon/id652260728 I don't get royalties for this because my label requires me to sue for any monies that they might owe me and since it's a Jazz Album they know there won't be enough money to warrent that...lol...But these days in most cases albums are more like a business card than a source of income anyway. Of course here in Turkey I have heard some of my tunes being used as ringtones on Nokia phones...They never told me about that...But thats cool, I like hearing them being played... I believe I'll just release my next album free on the internet, just to get the music out there... Anyway, some of my friends have been asking where can they get it, so here it is now on itunes in the States...If you listen to some samples and want to write a review, remember to be kind...
Bravo! The music business is so cut throat! Looks like a world tour in the making. Edit: WOW! I'm not a big Jazz listener, I could get into it! Very impressed! Bravo!!
Have you ever played on cruise ships, Lloyd? The last cruise I went on, my family and I discovered a really awesome musician. Seemed like a great way to get new fans.
I don't do iTunes there Lloyd, so I was happy to see it listed on Amazon. And now it is listed in my music folder!
I met my wife on a Cruise Ship out of Miami...I was playing a two week Jazz Cruise and she was the beautiful Turkish Casino dealer who was a Jazz Fanatic...lol....I went out for 2 weeks and ended up staying for 2 years and got married in Istanbul when I left the ship....ha,ha....You asked if I ever did the ships...ha,ha....I found the love of my life on the ships.... and the MS Ecstasy was our first home...
That is just such an awesome story! I love it! What cruise line? And how many years have you and your beautiful Turkish Casino dealer been together now?
Carnival Cruise Lines...the MS Ecstasy....and we've been together 20 years now and she's just as beautiful now...maybe more so! When my wife, Aydan's mother was pregnant with her, she used to look at the moon every night and wished for a baby girl. And when Aydan was born, her mother named her Aydan which means in Turkish, "From the Moon" as in a Gift from the moon.....I wrote that tune "From the Moon" one night sitting up front on top of the MS Ecstasy, while looking at the moon thinking of Aydan...That tune just came to me full blown...bass lines, melody, chords, everything.... And thats the title cut on this album...
We need to be able to like posts more than once! I'm not much of a jazz fan, but I'll have to check out the album now, after hearing the lovely story behind the title cut. btw, I did look and was surprised to see the Carnival Ecstasy is still in operation. I've only been on Carnival's Fantasy Class ships, and enjoyed all three of them. Haven't left out of Miami, though. Maybe you two should take an anniversary cruise tour.
Anniversary Cruise would be excellent!! Love to... If you like hearing the story behind tunes..."Aydan's Day" was a sountrack I heard in my head while trying to follow Aydan through the 'Grand Bazaar' in Istanbul the first time.....and when you go to the Bazaar and find what you want, you are suppose to argue with the cat about the price...If you don't they don't respect you...lol.....So we were going there to find some Apple Tea.... 1.:The first melody is a Jagged Bop Line that sounds like how Aydan zig-zagged through the huge crowd there...I mean, she can move through a crowd... 2.:After the 1st melody, there's a Sax, Trumpet, and Piano solo...Each solo is each players impression of a crowded Bazaar... 3.:After the piano solo, there is another melody. It starts with the 2 horns repeating a note and it goes up high...That's Aydan (horns) calling for me to come over and check out the tea. 4.:Then there are 2 short phrases..."diddle-de-da...diddle-de-da...1st one is her saying "How much is it" and then the seller, "10 lira"... 5.:band STOPS and the 2 horns start running! Thats Aydan going off on the guy, and doing the 'barter thing.... 6.The Drum's solo is us digging through the tea and stuff... 7.:She (horns) then asks the price of another tea....samething happens. 8.:Now it ends with her (horns) saying "So long, farewell and goodbye" til it fades.......... Check it out...and let me know if you hear it....lol.....It doesn't really matter....whatever you see in your own imagination is what the song is really about...That how Jazz works...But the above story is what I was seeing when I wrote it.....
Some of us just got the music it the old school way. Got the CD a couple of years ago (hard to track down at the time) and has been a regular on my phone since. GDCarrington, Jul 18, 2011 http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/what-are-you-listening-to.23727/page-5#post-412682 I am glad it is getting more exposure.
Thanks man, and please, Steve...You've got to let me know if you ever use any of my music for one of your shaves....That would be one of my career goals 'in the bag'....After making the Shave Den hang....I've realized getting a spot in your shave music rotation is an artistic milestone... Many are called but few are chosen... Thanks my friend, for 'pulling my coat tail' to that....It's good to know. You're not alone in not being into the itune thing. I've received PM's and E-mails from others who wanted another source to download... MY MAN !!....I remember that....and have always appreciated your support...I'm also looking forward to hearing you sing....Hopefully, sometime in the near future...
