Another brush given to me from @Jrdelgado ..... a Certifyd #6 Well used beast! Back. After removing the knot, finish and glue; I found the shaving soap had deeply permeated the wood. So I used India ink and soaked it in Teak oil and gave it four coats of Helmsman Spar Urethane. I re-lettered in gold and I then installed a 28mm boar knot from Shave Forge. It took a month and a half ..... mostly ensuring the coats where dry. I call it the Certifyd Beast because to be honest I've never worked on a brush of this size. The over all height is ~158mm (hard to be certain ... my calipers won't go any larger) Handle length is 98mm Handle width is 39mm Knot is 28mm The loft is ~60mm. The BEAST is back to life! And as always ...... more to come .....
Thank you ..... it was a time consuming brush, but I think it turned out well. I was tired when I post it so I just updated its specs. Truly a colossal brush ..... I say maybe used in a barber shop.
Thank you ..... I asked my son and then later my wife (his mother) on the color I should do for the lettering (white, yellow or gold) ..... the consensus was gold. I was worried that it would look too over the top gaudy, but a brush of this size it looks just right. Thank you Jim.
I saw these synthetic knots on APShaves on Etsy and thought they'd look great in these brushes. After removing the original knot; I weighted, polished and re-lettered them. and After installing a 24mm synthetic fan badger from APShaves these two brushes are ready to make many more lathers. And as always ...... more to come .....
I pick this butterscotch Plymouth a little while ago. I held off restoring it because I wanted to make sure to get a nice knot to do it justice. Before ...... I removed the knot and slightly enlarged the opening to properly accept a 20mm knot . Then after setting the Maggard's 2omm two banded Badger knot at 46mm loft; I gave it a test lather to see its bloom. After ...... Ready for a new life of looking and performing great! And as always ...... more to come .....
