Not at all. Most people here (except grandapas) don't even know what a DE razor is. When I started telling people what wonders I discovered with the traditional shaving they ware looking at me something like this :think002 (what the hell is that a safety razor?) Oh... maybe just another Romanian fellow who's also on the forum (TiberiuR)
So rather like here. Are you able to find old vintage razors around? Would the grandpas have been using German razors, or Russian, or Gillettes, or domestic, or what? Bill
Didn't have time to check, I have to finish with my exams and then go take a look at the flea market. But that remembers me that about 2 yrs ago I threw out a DE 5 piece razor left from my grandfather, thinking who would use this "junk" now. :angry017 Don't know what it was...
Oops. The good news, I suppose, is there may be a lot of other people who don't wanT the "junk" either, and you may be able to make some very unusual finds. Best wishes on your exams! Bill
3RD Still smooth and sharp , they are also talking about these blades on Pogonotomy and badger and blade , guess they blades were little known outside of a lucky few and in russia till recently
Back on topic, another very fine (and comfortable) shave with the Voshkod (Day 6) and I still have no indication that this blade is finished. So 100 blades (for me) is starting to look like it might be a two-year supply. Bill
Another fine shave (day 7) from the Voskhod! In ordinary circumstances this blade would be retired as it has now more than surpassed expectations and my face is not usually a "proving ground" for blade longevity. But... Bill
I got to seven and for me, the blade was starting to dull, but for me six shaves is a record so seven was surprising. I let it go after that and just keep them for six now.
I got a couple of these in the mail and tried one out tonight. I'm pretty skeptical whenever a blade is pitted against, or compared to two of the best blades on the market. Iridium Super blades are my favorite so the entire shave I’m wondering if it can really be as good. I want the Voskhod to be just as good, that'd mean I'd have a replacement. However, the jury is still out. I got a nice smooth shave, but it started strange. Since it was compared to the Iridium, I loaded the Voskhod into my Futur set to 2 - which gets me a nice BBS every time out with the Iridium. I started shaving and couldn't feel a blade... for some reason it was sitting offset in my razor a way I’d never seen before due to, I think, some glue that had leached onto it from an Astra Superior Platinum. One thing I’ll say is that I’m glad it doesn’t have glue spots… I can’t stand glue on a blade. So with the blade loaded correctly I shaved and it went pretty good. I had to crank the razor to 3 for a final touch up pass which I don't normally have to do with Iridium. My aftershave splash burned more than normal which usually means the blade was a bit rough, but I happen to use a new aftershave tonight - Taylor's ST James. I think the burn was more from the cologne scent than the alcohol. It left a good first impression, although I'm not ready to say it’s not a good as Iridium nor do I think it's as sharp as a feather. However, first impressions are wrong sometimes. I'm looking forward to trying it again tomorrow. Next time I'll use an aftershave I'm familiar with.
Hey James, I'm looking forward to hearing your on-going impressions, so please feel free to post any shave-by-shave musings you may want to make in this thread. The more reviews the better (expecially from skeptical fans of superior blades). I still don't believe the Voskhods are as ultra-sharp as Feathers, but never-the-less I'm more than impressed with the fine quality of the shaves, the comfort and the trustworthiness of these Voskhods. Tomorrow I expect may be my last day using these (in the near term) although I will likely next try the brother (or is it sister?) blade to the Voskhod called the LADAS which is said to have a more acute grind and which some feel is sharper feeling than the Voskhod. We will see. But any of you all who are trying these out please feel free to blog on. Good. Bad. Or indifferent. Bill
I'm sorry to tell you... we've been fooled. We didn't buy these blades from an e-bay usual seller... just took a second look at an e-mail paypal sent me with the tracking info. Guess what? Seller's Name: Britva, SIA Seller's Email: payments@britva.eu It was sooo obvious as the seller's name is britva_britva :happy102
Well spotted Dragos I certainly don't want to end on a down-note, but finally (at shave 8) the Voskhod hit its limits. But what a surprisingly pleasing this blade proved to be! I was skeptical going in and am going out quite a fan of this blade. I find the Voskhod very smooth, comfortable, and trust worthy. The shaves I got from it were as fine as those from any blade I've experienced. They are not as ultra-sharp as my (at least until now) go-to Feathers, but may be may be just the thing for those gents who find the sharpness of Feathers is not to their liking. These join Yellows and Iridiums (and the afore-mentioned Feathers) in my short-list of favorite blades. Milage varies, but I hope this helps someone else find a new favorite themselves. Happy shaving! Bill
Had my third shave with one of these today and just put in an order for 200. I'm not messing around this time. Something I didn't alude to in my first review was that I had a some razor rash (ingrown hairs, redness) on my kneck and red bumps on my adams apple from using Derbys and Astra Superior Platinums the week before. Theyhad done the same thing in the past , but I was trying them out again just to see if I could replace the Iridiums with my current stock. After using the Voskhod for the last few shaves the bumps have healed and my skin in back in good condition. The same thing happens when I use Iridiums under the same circumstances which is my number one indication of how good a blade is for me. Besides that, it made it to shave number 3 and is still shaving as good as shave number 1. SOLD. Thanks for the thread. It made finding my Iridium placement blade very simple.
Not at all... just that I saw people debating the prices and p&p costs from britva website... and we got to the same place in the end.
Funny you picked out the Derbys and the Astras. These are two (fairly popular) blades that don't work for me either. I'm glad you liked the Voskhods. Bill (who was surprised shaves 4, 5, 6, and 7 held up as well as shave 3)
