I now have an offer from Zephyr:signs001: to do an original restore of my grandfather's straight:), and I can hardly wait...

To be sure I am all set, I am also thinking of getting a sight unseen deal from whippeddog. I am truly afraid that I'm in the beginning of a new obsession:D

My primary objective was to fix up the straight I got from my grandfather, but the more I read, the more I want to learn and experience. And with that I fear that more equipment will come my way...

    A little update...

Things have byen kind of hectic, and I managed to "loose" my straight in a kleening spree... Last week I shipped the knife to Zephyr, and to day I put in an order for a sight unseen deal with whipped dog.

In the meantime I have been giving DE shaving a go, and I do not miss cartridge shaving at all. Yes, I spend more time shaving, but I enjoy every second of it.

Can hardly wait to see the result of Zephyr's work.

Recieved an update from Zephyr. The razor should turn out nice, and it may be finnished some time next week:D (fingers crossed)

I have decided that I want it as close to what it was as new, clean, polished and sharp. The scales looks to be in good condition, so I think this will turn out very well. Together with the stuff i ordered from whipped dog, I guess I will soon be ready for a straight shave.

I like the Arko shave stick very much. I bought a bunch of them on Amazon and am very happy with them.
    Inexpensive and good.

Recieved a package from whipped dog this weekend, and Zephyr has only the honing left on my grandfather's straight. So I am soon all set to give straight shaving a go.

Here is the result of his work, the before pictures can be seen in this threads first post.

You have a beauty there! I have both my father's and my grandfather's straight razors that I keep thinking that I would love to get shave ready. They would not be as pretty as yours but then the real value and beauty is in having something that is family. That is sort of what wet shaving is all about that connection back through all the men in the past isn't it.

Anyway I hope you enjoy your new/old razor for many shaves to come!

Just had my first shave with a straight. Not my grandfather's knife, but still. I should have that one back here during the week, but the kit form whippeddog had been sitting here too long. 20121022_223554-1.jpg This is the knife I got whith the sight unseen deal toghether with the poor man's strop kit. used Arko stick, and a cheap brush (synthetic I think) from a storechain called Vita here in Norway.

Suprisingly little blood;) And smoother than I had dreamed about. If I get the hang of it, I'm sure I can reach a BBS at some time, but more then happy with the result I got to night:happy108:

    I'll be back:D

    Congrats!!

My two just sort of sit staring me in the face wondering when I will work up the nerve to bring them back to life. But then I consider the damage I can do with even a Mach 3 and I become afraid - very afraid. Some day maybe I'll do it.

But you should be proud of your self!
