Randy, that was a great post. I found myself smiling through the whole article as I remembered roughhousing with my dad and more recently, roughhousing with my son (of which we do a lot of, so he must be totally awesome) Thanks for posting that.

    Wonderful stories!

My youngest (9)very happily guessed that I am planning on buying the kids their own brushes for birthdays. The down side for him is that he has to wait until November.

So what is a nice, inexpensive brush? All I really prefer is that the bristles do not fall out. I think I need 1 Boar and 2 Badger, but that can be flexible.

    THanks.

I would say look around Ebay for some vintage handles to re-knot. That says extra special to me.

You can get boar and badger knots from The Golden Nib. And plenty of advice and tips from TSD members.

This is a great idea. Make it a family project. Then the kids can say, look what we made (with Dad)

I was going to give you guys a hard time about this idea (Good Lord!! How am I going to re-not a brush!!??) but looked at the link first. Is it as simple as finding a handle with the appropriate size and then buying the rights sized knot?

I am liking this idea!! All 3 of my kids are in scouts (A Cub Bear, A Girl Scout Junior, and a Boy Scout Tenderfoot 1st Class) and this would be a great project. If we can make 3 of these and they turn out well, I could use this as a project for the Cub Scouts (I am Cub Master) which might lead to an increase in local wet shavers. Which might lead to an increase of buddies here....

    Thanks!

Paul, I did this for me, my dad, and my son. It is a really cool thing to do and we all have the same brushes now; green Ever Ready handles with 26mm badger knots from The Golden Nib. It's a blast too. And if you can get your kids in on it they'll feel attached to it a lot more. Have them pick out the handle, you can guide them on the knot grade and size, and then you can resurrect it. TGN has boar too, so you can get what you need to suit your needs.

I loved the Manly Art article. I had one small disagreement which I will not mention here, but otherwise, I LOVED it. Thanks for posting it!
