Cool Never new that. I guess you learn something new everyday. I am not a fan of Vlasic for some reason... O well.

I might try adding it to aftershave balms to get some more astringent properties.

Isn't 1 the mildest setting? It might help to try fewer passes on the neck at a more aggressive setting, with a very light touch - you might get better less irritating results that way. I am also a big +1 about face mapping - once you really know what you need to do where, you will get better results with less passes.:D

I found my neck irratation was caused by bad blade angel, I was scrapping the hears off instead of shaving them off. I also made a careful note of which way the hair was growning. This seemed to really help me alot.

    Prep

I found lately i can get great shaves only after very good prep on my neck when i skimp or hurry it sucks every time. I also had to resist not doing any extra little passes without shave cream/soap. I still remind my self no pressure easy to forget but learn quick when after shave goes on. Mapped my neck oh man what a freak i am hair in several different directions. It does get better but the quest requires patience and practice.

Face lathering helps too. +1 om mapping the neck. My 3 neck passes are N-S, S-N, and the last in 2 halves: first half (my right side) SW at adams apple to NE toward right ear; second half (left side), SE at adams apple to NW to left ear. Sometimes I make this 3rd pass more E-W or W-E wardly using j-hooking. Most of the time this gives me an excellent chance for BBS on the neck.

My neck map actually is not perfectly symmetrical as the W-E growth direction on the left extends to about 1" to the right of my adams apple, so I actually have about 1/3rd of my neck on the right side growing in one direction, and the rest of the 2/3rds going the other way. Once I figured that out, my passes got much more efficient.

One caveat: if I do not get good reduction in the first 2 passes (ie: a worn blade, poor blade choice, etc), sometimes I find it best not to go ATG in the 3rd pass (too aggressive-can irritate). Instead I just do another N-S at an angle and settle for a DFS.

I have weidrd growing hair an my neck and i've just come to accept the fact I can shave only WTG and XTG (on some parts). I am still better shaved than 95% of other people.
No need to insist on a total BBS.

Yessir. There ahve been discussions about that exact topic. Don't go for BBS maybe... you can get ingrown hairs, irritation etc.

    I agree with you 100% I usually do a 2.5 pass shave or a 3.5
