I'll have to give the sharp dressed man a try some day. Thanks for the impartial professional assessment! :-D
Actually, I ended up liking the scent much more in the bath soap than the shave soap once I had the bath soap at hand. It's a little bit too faint in the shave soap.
I've sampled just over a half dozen Stirling soaps—and soap performance aside (which is okay, by the way), the majority of fragrances have been quite pleasing. I mentioned 'black ice' already in this thread, but the Margaritas in the Arctic (or 'MITA' to you Stirlingophiles) and the Frozen Tundra were also outstanding. Only one I had second thoughts about was the Beer scent soap—which was more 'unique' than pleasing.
I have samples of Ben Franklin, Black Ice, Lavender Sage, Margaritas in the Arctic, Ozark Mountain, Sandalwood, Sharp Dressed Man and Spice on order. I think I'm going to enjoy myself. A lot.
Stiring Gin & Tonic This is one that had looked interesting but I didn't order it when I ordered some sample pucks. I was pleasantly surprised when it showed up for free with my order. The scent from the puck, even wrapped, was very nice. Very much a Gin & Tonic scent, citrusy and junipery. I was curious to how long the scent would last, as my experience with Black Ice was that it hung around for awhile after the shave. Lathering it, the scent seemed to mellow and become more citrusy in a very nice way. It stayed strong through out the shave, but didn't linger afterwards, which I liked. That's how I prefer it, actually. A nice scent for me while shaving, and then it dies down to allow me to use whatever aftershave I wish. This is a great, summery, light, not-menthol soap. CUHPR: 8/10
Stirling Clubman I finally made it through the sample of Gin & Tonic and was able to try Clubman. Being a fan of Pinaud Clubman, I really wanted to try this out. Not much scent out of the wrapper, not much scent while lathering, and not really much of any lingering scent. Not a fan. Like the Sandalwood, it was just way to subtle. CUHPR: 5/10
A very interesting and entertaining thread. I have a few samplesof Stirling myself. I got them from Mr. RyanB and I have developed something of a crush for this soap. Very nice scents, very easy to lather and the lather is top notch. Reading this thread puts me in danger of developing Stirling Acquisition Disorder
I got all of my samples yesterday, plus a bonus sample! I have: British Leather Cocoa Forest Coniferous Frozen Tundra Margaritas in the Arctic Ozark Mountain and the bonus Barbershop! I had to try the MITA with all of the menthol madness on TSD. My first impression was great smelling. The menthol did not dominate the scent as I had expected. Had a great shave, but it was not as cold as I was expecting. It was cool and refreshing, but it did not freeze my face off. I can't wait to try all of them!
As good as Sharp Dressed Man smells, I prefer Executive Man myself. I think I smelled it more than I shaved with it!
I must admit I haven't explored the Stirling range of shaving soaps much further. I do love his bath soaps
