I started this on March 17. It was a beautiful day, and so I got outside with my tools and a piece of wood and went to work. Today, March 22, I took one and worked on it a little more. Here's what I have. I'm kind of winging it on this one. We will see where it goes. Boy, I sure would like a lathe.
Jim I can't find a little sign that say's I jealous. Looks great. From what I can see so far. Are you doing this all by hand or do you have a Wood Lathe ? WOW
Nice job. The lathe is a nice hobby. When you start setting knot depths is when you can learn alot about shaving brushes.
The first part I used my table saw and table router. No dremmel yet. I'll use that when I start on the hole. I am hand sanding, using an orbital sander, and my Swiss army knife.
I found using a dremmel with 60 grit sandpaper I make my neck or intention either in middle or higher up then using the hand (orbit) sander to polish off my shape then I use 80, 120, 220,320 grit sand paper on orbit. Then I go to hand sanding with 600, 1200 then 2000 for polish. It takes a while but for the 30 mm brush knots I find hand making them is quicker and better than on my lathe probably because my lathe is a small low power one. Your brush looks good. Also I gotna carving knife at micheals for $10 I use it a lot between the dremmel and orbital sander
Yesterday, I put the hole for the knot in the handle and applied a conditioner after a final sanding. Today, I applied some semi-gloss polyurethane finish and hung it up to dry. I found out that the High Mountain Badger knot was shipped by Larry and should arrive on Saturday. I should be ready for a fitting by then.
Wow That looks great! Yes I am jealous ..... When I was a little kid, my mother was stopped at a red light. There was a motor cycle cop writing some body a ticket. According to my mother, I supposedly rolled the window down stuck my head out the window and said to the cop "Hey we want one Too! " my mother never let me live that one down. Especially when I got my first speeding ticket as a teenage driver. Worst part was the Motorcycle Cop was a family friend. Like an Uncle to me, I was about 4 or 5 so I didn't recognize him in his uniform helmet and teardrop sunglasses. So Jim...."Hey we want one Too!
