I had a small piece of wood and figured it might be good to make a travel sized brush as I have a few small diameter knots. I really wasn't sure what shape to make, so I just started using the rotary tool and made a rough shape, but still wanted to keep a decent size to hold on to and then just shaped the rest by hand. I used a 19mm badger knot and the handle size is 1 3/16" high and 1 5/1/6" diameter at the base and the total height is 3". I just needed something to do and this is what I came up with. The colors are Black and Squash Blossom, sort of Yellow Orange..........
Brother, if you haven't, I highly suggest you try one of the Maggards SHD two band knots. I just tried mine last night and I love it.
I knew that after getting this brush from @Shekky, there'd be a good chance I'd replace the knot, and I did. I had a 20mm synthetic knot in my inventory and said, now's the time. Removing the knot is different than removing other ones. The bristles kinda melt and form together in one lump, including what ever adhesive they use. It wasn't until I got everything out and was pushing on the warmed adhesive, to make a flatter surface for the new knot, that the bottom fell out. It has a removable plug, which you can just see on the second pic. This actually helped as I could add the epoxy from the bottom, making sure the epoxy filled in the empty space between the knot and handle. Then I added some cardboard filler, and some BB's for added weight held together with Liquid Nails in the squeeze tube. Let dry for a while and added the bottom plug. The following are before and after pics..........
I got this Albright Rubberset brush from @Jrdelgado yesterday.......... I wasn't sure what knot to use, either a dyed boar or badger. Since my supply at the moment is limited, and this knot is a good fit, I went with the badger. This second pic after painting the handle back to it's dark brown, a couple of coats of poly urethane and the knot installed and slightly longer by about a 1/10" than it was originally was..........
