greetings from wales uk. i have been wet shaving for one week. i have a jagen david razor with wikinson sword and derby blades. i use proraso sensitive cream soap and a palmolive stick. i am having quite good results. only trouble is i get a number of small cuts to the right of my face under my mouth area and the crease under my mouth. any advice would begratefuly received. i am 61 years old so i dont have baby skin. lol.
Welcome to TSD About the cuts, do you get them when shaving with the grain or against ? Try to change a little bit the angle or the razor when you shave those parts and see if it works. I also have a edwin jagger and sometimes a little adjustment in angles is necessary.
Glad that you landed here at TSD, @flaxton . I'm sure you will fit right in. Join us on The Shave of the Day thread. It is fun, and you will see all kinds of products. And please Mark YOUR location on the TSD map - instructions here.
hello and welcome just a thought; if your getting cuts only on one side, could you change hands when shaving that area?
hi david. i dont think thats a very good idea at this early stage but i will cetainly keep it in mind
Welcome! I too am new to the den, but have already profited so much from th advice and knowledge of our members! Good luck an glad to have ya!!!
to TSD "flaxton" I hope you enjoy it here. A week is not a long time. What is your preshave routine like? I also would advise paying more attention to your shaving technique and pressure and getting a large sample blade pack and concentrating on an irritation free shave over a close shave for now. Time, technique, practice and patience are key to eventually getting a close, irritation free shave. I'm your age and your correct we don't have baby skin, but we do have brittle "old man" skin, at least I do. A dog jumping on me or a tiny branch slapping my arm will cause a cut now a days.
thanks everyone for the warm welcome. i just shaved using a derby blade. i dont think they are as good as the wilkinson blades. i tried going against the grain under my mouth but i still has a few small nicks. getting more confident though. pity i have 20 derby blades, good job they are not expensive.
Croeso (hope that's right). Welcome to the Den! My family originates from Swansea. You've got to give this type of shaving a bit of time to learn. The biggest advice I've been given is NO PRESSURE. In other words let the weight of the razor do the work, don't add any additional weight (pressure). Use light, even strokes with a shallow angle. I try to get the angle right by placing the head against my skin with the handle at 90 degrees. Then tip the handle down until you feel the blade. Try that. Good luck.
