Hello all, brand new member here! 10 days ago was blithely unaware of the Rolls Razors, until I picked one up at a local flea market. Since then, I've acquired two more, and now have a question:
All three have the ball bearing in the side of the blade, under the blade guard. Only one example presses snugly against the guard, holding the guard in position either above or below the blade edge. The other two razor guards are loose, flopping around as the blade is positioned for shaving. Are these two missing a bearing spring underneath? I've removed one ball bearing and it's just loose in its hole.
I've added a picture to help clarify: Rolls Razor Guard Detail.jpg

I'm intrigued by these razors! Thanks!

I don’t have any experience with Rolls but there are some good folks here. They will.

The ball bearing acts as a detent against a small nub on the inside edge of the guard. This is what allows the guard to flip up and down and snap into place. I've seen guards with the nub worn down such that it barely makes contact with the ball bearing. Thus, no "snap" just a floppy guard.

There's no spring behind the ball bearing. It just sits static in a cavity in the side if the blade.

I think of it more as a kick stand than a guard. It's purpose isn't to guard , more to prop.
The designers must have marred a bunch of edges to come up with this strategy.
