Hey everyone, I am from just outside Phila PA and have been wet shaving for a couple years. My former setup was pretty simple, a 60's SS, Feather blades, Arko, and a cheapie brush and bowl. I was getting good results but am wanting to branch out, try some new things and improve my technique. Just a couple weeks ago I got a Gem Junior and that is a bit of a game changer for me. I love the feel and feedback I get from it and my shaves are improving. I do have to switch to a DE to get under my nose though. I hope to learn and be able to contribute to the site.
I'm glad you landed here @willc . You can get under your nose better if you turn that Gem sideways. As you have probably found out, it is best to use the Gem with a very low angle, about 10 degrees or less.

I may give sideways a try next time. Even though I am new to this Gem SE I am getting good results and what surprises me most is I haven't cut myself with it YET!!! With the few Gillette Super Speeds I have, I get a nice shave but nicks happen. I bought 100 Feather blades a few years ago so that may be a factor. I am going to get some more samples for DE in the future. Anyway, thanks for the very nice welcome everybody.
welcome to TSD! I was just telling another newcomer to experiment and find what work best for you. This is part of the fun of wet shaving and trying to get the best shave possible.
