Hi all. Name's Mike. I switched over to a DE razor about a year and a half ago, and I won't go back. So much nicer than the not-so-cheap disposable cartridge razors I had been using. Anyway, my wife gave me her grandfather's old razors, a gillette DE and two SE's (Auto-strop Valet and an Ever-Ready). I've been trying to find info on the Gillette, but haven't had much luck. I think it's fairly old, but can't find anything to confirm it. So far the only thing I've found online is that it exactly matches the second razor on this page: http://www.creekstone.net/razors/gillette.htm But that page doesn't have much information. here's a couple pictures of it. If anyone can help me find more info on it, I'd appreciate it. As far as shaving itself goes, so far I've only used some cheap DE blades from the grocery store. They seem to work ok for me, but I'm open for suggestions on better blades. My wife like's the scruffy look, so I usually only shave once or twice a week, about when it starts to get itchy. Usually a single pass gets close enough for me, though sometimes I do two passes. Thanks for any info you might be able to share, and I look forward to exploring the site more.
Looks like one my buddy is letting me use, I believe a Gillette Bostonian. His is from the 30s, but I'm not sure if they are exact. When I get off my couch I'll compare the numbers. Looks like that one is in Damn fine shape.
I've always heard that one called a fat handled Gillette New or a Gillette New with a fat handle. Looks like the short comb variant. Not to be confused with the Fat Handled Tech. It could either be a Gillette Bostonian from the thirties or it's a 1940 "Gold Special" or "Blue Gold Special" http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/The NEW/The NEW.htm Welcome to the Shave Den. I'm from Woodburn, Oregon, what part of this state are you from?

Hi! Welcome to the Den. I'd say your razor is a Gillette New. But I've been wrong before. As for blades, give a read here.
Hi..nice razor! I have a Canadian version. Don't discount those grocery store blades because their "cheap". There are many lost cost blades out there of high quality that perform well for a lot of people. Much to be said for an inexpensive blade which is serving your needs and can be bought locally. And welcome to TSD..
Thanks everyone! This is all rather confusing to me, as to which style is what. Seems like there's so many images out there that say this is a 'this' or 'that' and they're all different. Oh well, someday I'll get it figured out. And Ryan, to answer your question, I'm just up the road from you, in Newberg.
Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
For the life of me I can't find a date code or serial number on this thing anywhere. Did Gillette ever produce them without either?
