Welcome! I just drove in to Adelaide from Melbourne yesterday. Accompanied by my rowdy family and Paul Kelly on the stereo singing about Colonel Light, wisteria on the back verandah, and Kensington Rd. It's Good Friday - the place is like a ghost town. Happy shaving!
I think I must have got it into my head that DE razors had been replaced by cartridge razors and therefore were no longer available. As this was not a priority, I never bothered to find out otherwise. My loss. The funny thing so far is I catch myself running my hand over my face without thinking about it, feeling how smooth the shave is. I like the long handle and the weight of the 38C, it offers a lot of control compared to a cheap cartridge razor. It also demands more respect too.
Hi Sweeney! Welcome to TSD and Happy Shavings! Nice to see another southpaw over here. I haven't got the Merkur 39 (slant), but I don't see why should be different for southpaws to use.
Hello Mike, I'm over thinking this, aren't I. I figured the twist in the 39C blade is more suited to the right handed than to the minority left handed of the populous. The action, if used by a left hander could be the wrong way making it easier to cause an injury. Just a thought Mike, just a thought. This is the sixth shave with the original Merkur blade. It is still giving a good finish without tugging. The razor is just brilliant. I am tempted to get a 39C just to find out what it is like.
It might be so for the right side of your face, but how about the left side? See my point? The razor is symmetrical in the way the blade is twisted, but your face isn't (at least mine )
Yes, I see your point Mike. I was considering the 'hand' of the twist, ie a right hand twist, much like a drill, for right handed users and a left twist on the blade for left handed users. It is to do with the action of your shaving hand whether the twist is suitable for a left handed person. You can see by my avatar that I get a more than a close shave with the 38C. Since the 39C is a more aggressive shave, I will be shaving my actual skull with it.
