My wife ordered it off amazon for $44 with one Merkur blade. I had never held or even seen one until I opened it on Christmas. But it has worked flawlessly for the last three days. Tomorrow I will try not to shave. I wasn't going to shave today then I saw it in the bathroom and felt the urge to shave with it again. Hopefully I can resist the urge tomorrow.
Man, thats so funny ! I do the same thing. I swear Im gonna skip a day but all it takes is to walk by the bathroom and before I know it, I have a lathered brush in 1 hand and a razor in the other.
Welcome to the den, mate! As for advice: I don't think I can add anything to the sound advice above. As for being tired of paying outrageous prices for cartridge razors: a lot of us started out on that idea. Cheap shaving. Be prepared for some AD's (acquisition disorders) to kick in! Soon your bathroom may be crammed with razors, soaps, blades, brushes, aftershaves and whatnot. You'll just go as mad as the rest of us. Welcome again!
A (late) welcome to TSD, ctjkelley. Everyone has given you great advice, and I'll reiterate Cool Breeze's suggestion. You can buy the Van Der Hager "starter set" at Walmart for less than $10. (Some of the grocery stores here carry them as well). The brush is certainly not the same quality as the ones that cost 5 times as much, but I still use mine on a regular basis. The VDH soap is one of the most inexpensive ones on the market, but I don't recall ever reading a bad review of it. Although I have several kinds of soaps that I now use, my VDH soap is still in my rotation and I will definitely buy another puck.
I picked up another VDH puck last night and I still have 2 unopened pucks of artisian soaps under the sink. I dont know if I just love it that much or if I'm just that comfortable with VDH. It allways lathers well, offers incredible protection and smells great. Not to mention its less than $2.00
