All good suggestions so far -- but nobody has offered the idea of trying a cream like Bigelow in the tube, or even Art of Shaving. Both easy to find in retail stores. The Art of Shaving stores offer overpriced stuff, but it's good stuff! At least I've always found their shaving cream in the jar very good, and it's the only place in town where I can actually hold a DE razor in my hand before I decide if I want to buy it or not. They offer a few straight razors too (again, WAY overpriced, but they have rent to pay). Bath & Body Works stores have a buy 2 - get one free on Bigelow tubes -- good stuff/good deal. Also, that wonderful D.R. Harris Arlington scent is offered as a shaving cream too. I think most newbies will find lathering easier with creams than with hard soaps -- especially if you're using a soft shaving brush (badger or synthetic).
