Nice pick up man, I was just given my great grandfathers Gold Gillette Tech. Have yet to shave with it but i think tomorrow morning I'm going to give it a shot. Did some reading about how mild they are, far less afraid of it now. Will probably put the Red Personna Platinum in there that is in my DE89. Went to the link and found a nice picture of the Tech I have and its original packing.
VERY nice score especially as it was your Great Grandfathers! Since you use an EJ89 now, you should not have any trouble using the Tech. They "almost" never bite !! The only thing that might throw you off a tiny bit at first is the smaller size and lighter weight of the Tech handle in comparison to the EJ. Enjoy the shave while thinking of your Great GrandPa using the exact same razor so many years ago....
The Gillette is a Slim. To find the date code, look under the blade pan and there will be a letter and number. if you look it up in a Gillette date code guide it will tell you the year(letter) and quarter(1-4) of that year that it was made. They were produced in the mid to late 60's. I think like 1963-1968. I'm not sure about the Matador,I've never heard of it that I can think of, but it sure is a nice looking adjustable..... [Edit] Not much info that I can find, but I think it maybe Nordic made?
