What do you think, will the soap hold out another 11 days? I do shave everyday. In the event the soap goes down for the count early, I will probably open up the TSD shave stick that received. Any opinions as to my options?

    Happy Wednesday!

Counts IMHO ;) You stayed true to the spirit.

You're gonna miss out on the big party at the end! LOL

The point is you learned a bit and you're still having fun! Happy shaving!

Same setup, different day. Didn't someone say the definition of insanity doing the same thing and expecting a different result? (Or something like that.)

I guess it would drive some folks crazy, especially if they have yet to find the combo that gives them fantastic shaves. I tried a few razors, a bunch of soaps and a seventy or so blades. It was great fun at first, but it became a bit of a chore after five years. That is fine, as many good products were identified - the best combination as well as plans B through Z. I learned a lot in the process, too, thanks in no small part to the folks here at The Shave Den.

My traditional wetshaving goals were to have a cool looking razor and affordable blades, the former because it is stylin' and the latter a reaction to sky-high Fusion cartridge prices. All the different products were tried solely with those ends in mind. But what about you folks who collect, accumulate or otherwise have lots of shaving stuff? Is it done to find a way to get a great shave? To experience using things that are the objects of a themed (barberiana / wetshaving) collection, with shaving a side effect? Just to try a big variety of things out of curiosity? Or something else? And how do events like No Variation November and No Buy July fit into all that?

Just curious, as NVN and NBJ seem to me like making a break with habit, and for many about exercising control and self-discipline. Kinda like giving up carts and electrics and learning traditional wetshaving.

Regardless, I hope you all enjoy your shaves too! :)

To me it is the fun of being able to have variety in shaving. In the same way as I don't wear the same clothes every day. It's a matter of choice. And I like the variety too much to be able to stay with one setup for a whole month.

Shaved with the NO-Variation setup this morning. The difference today was that I was in a bit of a hurry. Good shave, but felt some irritation. And then I put the Proraso aftershave on.

I swear I made the "woob-woob-woob" noise that Curly from the Three Stooges used to make. Yowch.

The good news is that the menthol kicked in shortly thereafter. Now I'm cool and tingly.

Still plugging away at this, but my other razors are getting grumpy and feeling neglected.

Strange thing happened today. I put in a brand new Astra SP and started my shave. The blade tugged and pulled and was generally unpleasant. I stopped to make sure the blade wasn't crooked or something like that. I even opened the doors to check, but it was OK. I figured it must me and my technique so I started again. But I had the same problem. I stopped and stood there staring at the razor and scratching my head, feeling like a Neanderthal. Then, for lack of a better idea, I opened the razor, flipped over the blade and tried again. Everything was just fine, comfortable and back to normal.

    What's up with that?

I have had something like that but Silver Blue. Tugged, Pulled. Then removed and reinserted blade, relathered, then it went fine. Baffling, but I'll take it.

I read your other post. Just do what you need to do to get well and comfortable. We can always offer your an waiver until next November! Keep reading about the last week of this craziness. Maybe you can pick the "winner"! LOL

That is really what it is to me any way. It is doing a reset against bad habits that creep in over time or an over reliance on product to get the job done.

This experiment was good for you because you learned a very valuable lesson that sadly many people who have been in traditional shaving for years have either forgotten or never learned, "you don't need an expensive razor, soap, brush or AS to get a fantastic shave." That is really what this was all about. Enjoy your shaves!

I'm using this last week of my NO-vember trek to really concentrate on my "trouble areas". Although I feel my general technique has improved and resulted in better shaves, I still have problems along my jaw line. Figured out this week that when I stretch my skin to make this area more accessible the hair sort of disappears. Also, the grain of the hair in this area is directly in line with my jaw. So, the only way to get a decent cut here is to glide the blade right along my jaw bone. If I'm careful, it works fine. Still learning. How long are you officially a "rookie"?

I've also started shining up my other razors, getting them ready for a rotation. I can hear them grumbling in my cupboard at night.

Finally, notice my new "Hermey" Christmas avatar! Never knew that was his name!
