II can't comment on the quality becaus they are still in the mail, but I just recently purchased a dozen black towels from Appleton barber Supply. http://www.appletonbarbersupply.com/store/shopexd.asp?id=1390 They are quite a bit cheaper at $14.95. However there is the flat rate of $10 shipping that you have to consider. So what i did was I bought more stuff the justify the shipping cost
Most comfortable recliner of all time. Now if I could only figure out how to shave myself while I'm in the chair.....
Stainless I bought a stainless steel cat food bowl at WalMart for 99 cents to use for lathering. Lots cheaper than a shaving mug from a distributor.
Re-purposed a ceramic tea cup, thats built like a coffee mug, from the pictures it looks like the shorty OS mugs. Re-purposed a wooden Relic watch case that I have kept for ten years cause it has a slide wood top.
My loose sleeved blades are kept in a plastic screw-top pretzel container. The DE cased/packaged blades are stacked inside an old wooden English Leather box. Injectors and SEs are inside a 2nd one. All have a layer of silica pellets in the bottom.
As I'm just starting out, there's a fair bit of shoe-horning going on! My pre-shave wash is done with a palmolive hand soap as it's anti bacterial and it cleared up the dry skin i used to get between my fingers, so figured its good for my face too, and it seems to be working. My 'bowl' is an old cereal bowl that has sat at the back of cupboards for years - its got a smiley face and two legs with shoes on, so you have to hold it so you don't knock it flying, but it makes me smile and i didn't trust myself with a mug - seemed a matter of time until the brush went in my coffeeops: Finally my razor sits in an old soap dish that has two groves in it to stop soap bars moving, but also holds the handle nice and snug
Great looking bowl. Can I have it . That really does look nice. The grooves on the inside look like they would help whip up a fast nice lather.
I think what is funny is that a lot of people switch to classic shaving to save money spent on expensive multi cart razors, but classic shaving eventually becomes a hobby and people end up spending way more than they used to. ha
Both items look incredible for shaving! For awhile I've suggested that folks use their hand bowls (fingers) for lathering because of the relief and the way the hand bowl makes lather. That mortar has that and then some! Neat!
I'd never heard of Suribachis before, but it seems they're pretty easy to find on Amazon, and probably other online dealers as well. Probably cost a lot more than Manticore's wife paid at Goodwill, but still not insanely expensive. If I used a bowl for lathering, that does look like it would be ideal.
I've bought 8 or 9 sugar bowls from wal-mart,just under $2.00, to hold various shaving soap. I didn't buy it, but repurposed my Mom's old percolator coffeepot to warm water for shaving. ( no boiling water, I just heat it to where it's steaming)
I guess this qualifies...Working on MY Shave Den (bathroom). I Picked up a new wallpaper border yesterday to replace the existing in our new house. The gentleman that owned the house prior to us was a golfer. Also purchased Vintage look taps few days back. The taps are on my list of things to do. The honeydo list is longer at present... always fun moving. Good to have my Honey back though. Still working on a My Shave Den (computer room) upstairs for razors and other collectables, no pics yet.
