She knows I would really like a birth year, so she's ok with whatever I decide. I'm leaning toward keeping it. My rationale at this point is that due to the fact that it was the first real wild find for either of us, plus the fact that she found it somewhat randomly on my birthday, and it's NOS and I would be the only one to ever use it, gives it more sentimental value than some random razor that just happened to be manufactured the same year I was born.
That is exactly why that one would be a keeper for me. My wife gave me my first DE and it's still in the rotation for sentimental reasons. I look forward to seeing yours in SOTD pics
I wanted to ask a question, and I mean no disrespect. What is the big deal about " birth year " razors?
I have a birth year black beauty. It could be any year for all I care. The Parker my brother gave me means more. The Slim I bought because my dad shaved with one means more.
Since you're wife is okay with whatever, sell it, profit, and wait for the one you want to pop up. It will sooner or later. Unless your datecode is N4, in which case you'll get nothing but Knacks.
The more I've thought about it over the past couple of days, the less it seems to matter. It would just be kinda cool to have a razor that shares your birthday.
After reading this if my wife gave me something like that on my birthday I'm afraid that I would open it use it and be happy with it. You know how it is, she may say she's ok if you sell it or whatever but you know that is not true. The best thing you can do at this point is shave with it tomorrow.
I fully agree with you Mike. I sold the razor my wife got me. She assured me it was fine. But once I did the deed not only did I regret it but I knew my wife was upset also. Keep that sucker and use it on your Birthday if nothing else. It is a great reminder of your wife.
Just my opinion but, if my wife found a NOS 1963 slim or any other razor she knew I was looking for and gave it to me on my birthday or Father's Day, you can bet I would be keeping it. A thoughtful gift like that would be worth more to me than quick cash, unless we're talking dream vacation dollars. I probably wouldn't shave with it, it would sit on the shave shelf the way it is and become even more collectible over the years. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
