Two things I like about Floid's appearance-the shot of the man being satisfied with a good shave, and the year it began.

That was the company I was talkinabout("the year it began)"not the man's shave itself (chuk yuk yuk yuk)..But you're welcome. Floid is one of those that is above my budget for now, but I see so many nice things said about it.

Three passes, plus. North to South mostly WTG. Against common procedure South to North ATG. Ear to nose XTG on my cheeks & chin, and a diagonal slide on my neck. Rinse and check for missed places. That's when I lather up the fourth time and chin buff plus any needed clean up. Riding the cap makes for little irritation. Also every other day.

Wow-I'm impressed by your many directions! Although I've seen some video guys do it that way(or "those ways".). Is your neck diagonal slide from side to throat, or vice-versa?

Two passes to bliss, day 112 of the Arko Challenge is in the books. Today felt a lot better after shaking the rust, and a nice DFS was had by all. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a fantastic Friday!

That really is a gorgeous brush! The photo isn't bad either...

Vintage Shaver sounds so much classier than Old Fart, doesn't it? :). I'm getting to be an Old Fart but am still a fairly New Shaver (with just over a year in the Crew) with a mix of New and Vintage (but new to me) Gear.

And I agree -- the only dumb questions were the ones I waited months to ask because I thought they were dumb, and when I finally did give up and ask them, the straightforward answers I got improved my shaves immediately -- and would have improved them months earlier if only I hadn't been too embarrassed to ask those "dumb questions" back then...

Thursday evening November 2 - still on Focus! (almost a record for me!)

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 )
Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush
My Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Rose Petal

Much better shave today than yesterday! Three passes to a BBS with silent alum and with the Thayers used just to complete the shave ritual rather than out of any need. The key to the difference was the soap.

Tonight as planned I went with my alternate day soap and loaded my soft Italian almond frankensoap. I skipped using my bowl to whip the lather. Instead I swirled the damp boar brush in my soap tub until bubbly lather formed and the lather on the soap looked pasty, then added water twice, continuing to swirl until creamy lather was running over the sides of the tub and had covered the brush to the base of the knot. I then directly face lathered. (More or less the "super goop lather" method, I think. Anyway it works.)

My lather was much slicker, creamier, slipperier, and more protective than yesterday's. The difference was the quality of the soap. Even when it was fresh, I don’t think RedDragon's (his eBay vendor name) homemade glycerin soap was anywhere near the quality of Cella and the other Italian soap makes in my frankensoap, and sitting around for over a decade hasn't helped improve it either. I'm just going to relegate those 8 pucks to the handsoap/bathsoap bin and call it a day on them.

Which knocks my planned Focus on its head. I was planning to alternate between the frankensoap and the RedDragon pucks throughout the month, practicing loading different hardnesses of soaps and also seeing how much of a dent that would put in each tub using my new heavy loading technique. And now my hard soap is trashed.

I could just pick a different one, like MWF, but instead I have decided to recreate my Rule from my very first month on the Crew last October. Rockwell 6s razor, one brand of blade, one brush, Thayers Witch Hazel for postshave, and now a single soap too - the one I was using when I started here. Back in last October, I was using my Eternal Tub of TOBS Avocado Cream Croap as my soap - a 15-year old tub of TOBS that had somewhat dried out. That quarter tub finally got used up (after three straight months of use). So tomorrow I will introduce my Fresh Tub of TOBS Avocado Cream (not a croap) ... and see how long it lasts....

Nice recovery. Vintage soap can be risky.....
