Not that I know of. Only watched a couple of videos when I first started shaving with a DE. I stole it stole it from Keith here on this thread. I do usually say "like it owes me money"
Chris, From time to time I'm known to wash my face halfway through the day so I can apply a different aftershave. Why not I have enough for all of us It's really hard for me to gauge a new razor minutes after the first use, now 8-9 hours after the shave the Grafco-Merkur 3-Piece Open Comb hits on all cylinders! Smooth as silk! Very easy to maneuver around your mustache /goatee. I'm not sure but the teeth seem to be shorter? Possibly making this OC a tad more aggressive than others. Back to the aftershave, Gingers Garden Osmanthus this stuff makes my face feel so good.
I do that too. Glad to know I am not the only one who changes AS during the day sometimes! I completely agree, the best time to evaluate a shave is hours afterward. So happy to hear the Grafco is treating you right!
Day 6 - No Variation November! 6 November 2015 Utopia 3-piece Gillette Silver Blue (6) L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic Proraso Barbe Dure Alum TSD ISZ AS Splash under the Veg I am settling into a nice routine with this razor. Day 6 on GSB and still going strong. Was able to get to two pass DFS with no issues, and am really enjoying the Proraso Sandalwood scent, very understated and classic. Per @Rufus T. , I veg been evaluating stroke pattern and have noticed that it is different than with an injector. This Utopia 89-type head is super mild, but don't be fooled. Given the right angle, it s a highly efficient shaver, without sacrificing any comfort at all. Just a lazy evening at home with Mrs. Samurai. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a great weekend!
Nov 7 Focus shave 7 Day 2 for the Martin de Candre Fogère. It did excellent with the DE so now to the next test a straight shave. I used a warm scuttle and added some liquid lanolin like before then worked the puck liked it owed me money. I also added a lot of water and was rewarded again with slick yogurt lather. I hadn't for 28 hours so I had some good growth and the Dovo pinging away loudly as it sliced the whiskers away. I finished my 1/2 4th pass and decided to try get further and deal with the bottom of my neck. Since I still can't figure out how to ear to chin direction on the bottom of my neck I used scything motion instead. I also went after my chin too. I guess I was inspired by the lather and I have as much time to shave as I want on Saturday. The shave felt good and the alum test revealed just a little light irritation. The facturbating test revealed I was very close to BBS but not quite there. The aftershave feel was a little dry, tomorrow I will try to use more lanolin. Yep, that's exactly what happened. Hey, you invoke Jerry Clower you win the argument. My dad had some of his albums and would die laughing every time he listened. His favorite...and one of mine.......
I am surprised by my current shave rule. The 89 type head seems underrated. Perhaps EJ became so ubiquitous that it bred contempt as a "newbie razor"? It seems to me that it is a highly efficient design for low angle shaving. Great blade life too with GSB so far, and I had forgotten how well Proraso performs.
A "newbie razor". Well yes, it does have that reputation but what is a "newbie razor", really? Any flair Super Speed would qualify based on shave characteristics. My first rule razor was the Aristocrat which was perfect for me at the time. Any razor that delivers a mild yet effective shave makes a great "newbie razor". Probably the fact that the EJ as well as Merkur 34c are less expensive than some other modern options helped cement them as a great first razor. But being known as a "newbie" item doesn't lessen its effectiveness or ability to deliver really great shaves consistently.
I am also on day six with the Feather AC SS with a Professional blade. This blade is still smooth so I am going to give it a day seven tomorrow. Today's shave was a DFS two pass with one bloody spot. I tried to remove my Adam's Apple, which was operator error. I am still scared to try for a BBS pass and will wait another week or so before throwing caution to the wind.
