So I am not hallucinating. That's what I think as well - GSB improves after the first shave. Tough I usually get 7 or 8 shaves from one blade.

I think I read about that a while ago. Some theories about micro serrations and/or leftover material on the cutting edge from the production process that are being removed with the first shave ... similar to stropping a straight razor after sharpening.

Some, like @Drygulch , strop DE blades on the forearm or palm before the first use.

    Prep: hot shower, Somerset's PSO
    Razor: '59 Fatboy
    Blade: Feather (1)
    Brush: Rubberset 400-4 Silvertip Badger
Lather: The Strop Shoppe Black Tie with Tallow
Shave (setting): 3 passes; WTG (6), XTG (6), ATG (4)
    Post: Alum, L'Occitane Cade ASB

So I selected yet another blade from my order of 50 Feather blades I got a few weeks ago, two blades out of one pack were both junk. Selecting from another pack proved to be a winner, I had a sharp smooth blade. Great shave, got a little too carried away with touch ups so I'm feeling a little sore but no blood and more importantly I practiced good technique with is what I'm focusing on this month.

Yep! I think part of my problem was bad pack if Feather blades... But I'm doing much better now. I just shave like maybe three times a week heh

Maybe the edges had corroded or something on the Feather? Glad you got back to good shaving!

I'm not sure, I've seen reviews where other people have gotten bad blades from this seller on amazon, but they're in the minority.

    Gillette Super Speed Y3
    Vulfix Super Badger (660)
    Proraso Sandalwood cream
    Pinaud Clubman Original

Shave #2 with the 3rd Gillette Silver Blue in my Birth Quarter Super Speed.
Face lather and 1 pass XTG/ATG. Very nice reduction. I wet my face and neck and did a small amount of touch up where I could easily feel stubble. This gave me a near BBS. A cold water rinse followed by a moderate amount of touch up and the baby came home. The Pinaud Clubman stung at first, but finished quiet.

A nice comfortable one pass BBS from the Gillette Silver Blue in my Birth Quarter Super Speed. I kept going over a couple of my trouble areas after searching and finding hints of stubble after the cold water. For a moment during my touch up I started to think that I might have lost the angle on this razor, but it all turned out well in the end.

I hope everyone has a great Friday!

Changed things up a little today going with a XTG pass followed by an ATG pass. Given the amount of touch ups required, I would have been better served to have just went with a 3 pass shave from the start. I did end up with one weeper due to operator error. In the end, I finished with a near BBS. Closeness A and Irritation A - . Finished off with a splash of Fine Platinum. Happy Friday.

Fantastic shave today with the usual stuff:

    - D.R. Harris Sandalwood
    - Semogue 620
    - Mühle R89
    - Gillette Silver Blue (#4)
    - Tüff Sensitiv

Concentrating less on the tools themselves but more on their handling really seems to pay off. You know the feeling when everything falls into place? Well ... seems like it was one of those days for me today. One of the best shaves I have had so far, though maybe not BBS - but I don't care too much about that for an everyday shave. On the other hand: zero irritation, cuts or anything - A+ in that respect.

Thirteen days in a row and I'm running out of things to say about this setup. I did a thorough two pass shave today and ended up with a very nice DFS. I did get a couple of small weepers on a trouble spot on my neck. It was because I have difficulty keeping the correct angle on the offside lower part of the neck. I know where my focus will be for a while. All in all, I am pleased with the shaves I am getting.
