Nice review. I looked closely at that razor and decided that I'd rather not mess with it. You're a braver man than me! You did pretty well though. I didn't try Col. Conk, but I was really impressed with the Mama Bear's Soaps Black Code type. Its also a Glycerin soap. Mama Bear seems to have some good reviews. Here's what I ended up with when I tried it:

I'm attempting to try everything. I am shaving at rough 18 hour intervals to get in enough shaves. I'm enjoying it.

It was fun. I dislike Voskhod but I do alright with GSB, Ladas and now Sputnik. I'm gathering a list of go to blades and they seem to be very Russian heavy with some Japanese throw in for flavor. The razor did way better then it looked like it would. The corners of the guard bars are worn making it look more uneven then it was.

We're in the same boat here. My favorite blades are Polsilver, GSB, Sputnik and Feather. I don't actually dislike Voskhod, but I think there are better blades out there (don't tell Yuri I said that).

I dislike feather for the same reason as I do Voskhod. I feel like they are very sharp to the point of harshness. My Japanese blade of choice is Kai.

With 3 Russians on the list the cartel will overlook your remark. We will keep an eye on you though.

Just another case of YMMV ;) I have tried Kai and did not like them much - have given them away to a friend.

Everyone's face is different. It makes perfect sense that blades work differently for different people. Neil loves a blade I hate but also loves a blade I love. YMMV at its finest.

Since I own neither a Pain Stick nor a Russian razor - would shaving with a dubious Rimei blade in a Rimei razor count as supporting the brotherhood case? I might try that next week ;)

Congrats on a great shave with the Pain Stick and Super Pro. :eatdrink047: Pretty soon this will be your go to razor and blade.

I completely understand the time commitment and can see where it would greatly improve your technique. I like following along as you guys master the Feather AC and SR razors but I am not prepared to make the commitment in time to master either one. The Portland Razor Company razors look like true works of art.

I have really enjoyed the Wolfman a great deal. The level of craftsmanship and detail is over the top. My plans are to enjoy both the Wolfman and Mongoose for weekday shaves and spend the weekends enjoying my vintage razors. I am looking forward to you mastering the PRC SR next year.

My oldest daughter is home for the Thanksgiving break from the University of Alabama, so we plan to watch the game later today. She has turned into quite the football fan.

I hope you and yours have a fantastic weekend as well.

    Gillette Super Speed Y3
    Rapira Super Stainless (1)
    Vulfix Super Badger (660)
    Strop Shoppe Baker Street
    Pinaud Clubman Original

Shave #1 with the Rapira Super Stainless in my Birth Quarter Super Speed
Face lathered the Strop Shoppe Baker Street. Produced a rich slick lather. 2 full passes: Pass 1 XTG. Good reduction. Pass 2: ATG. At this point had a near DFS. Did brief touch up using the soap on my face to hit a couple of areas and I thought I might be close to a BBS. A cold water rinse followed by a moderate amount of touch up in a few of my trouble spots and I thought I had the baby. The Pinaud Clubman was milder than yesterday.

An enjoyable shave from the Rapira Super Stainless in my Super Speed with the Strop Shoppe Baker Street. I realized after my shave that I had been so focused on getting my trouble areas BBS that I missed a spot on my neck that usually isn't a problem. I didn't feel it during my rinse or when putting on the Clubman, but I do now. I’m looking at the bright side though, a least my lack of attention during that part of the shave didn't result in any blood. ;)

I hope everyone has a great Weekend!

    Feather #1
    Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic
    MDC Fougere
Dickinson’s +Menthol, Myrsol Metilsol, Whipped Shea Butter
    Fine L’Orange Noir

The weekend shave was wonderful. Two passes with clean up left me with my usual near BBS shave. Chubby 2 Synthetic is still my number one synthetic brush and MDC is my number one soap. Myrsol Metilsol was quiet and refreshing, with excellent skin care. The ending for this shave, a generous splash of Fine L'Orange Noir. I'm ready to Rock N' Roll. Have a good one.

Razor – Wolfman OC with Triad SS Helix
    Blade – Feather (2)
Brush – Rudy Vey with Shavemac Finest
    Lather – Tiki Cabernet Neroli
    Post - Witch Hazel & Fine L’Orange

It has been some time since I have used Tiki Cabernet Neroli. The Tiki is a semi-soft soap that is very easy to load and lather. The scent is an intoxicating mix of red wine and citrus. A great near BBS 3 pass shave with the Wolfman/Feather combo. This set up is nearly automatic for me at this point. Finished off with a splash of Fine L'Orange. I'm off to run a few errands and then spend the day watching football. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.

Excellent shave. Everything came together perfectly. I could survive with the mongoose and aristocrat just fine. Myrsol is so soothing I could use it exclusively

Hello everyone - here's my saturday shave:

    - Portus Cale Black Shaving Soap
    - Semogue 620
    - Mühle R89
    - Gillette Silver Blue (#6)
    - Tüff sensitiv Rasierwasser
    - Aloe Vera Gel

After a nice hot shower I lathered up this portugese soap. I really wanted to like it, because it smells fantastic, but apparently my skin doesn't agree. The lather was pretty slick and I did not have any problems with the shave itself, but afterwards the soap left me with a tense skin and a slight burning sensation wich I did not particularly enjoy. So I added some Aloe Vera Gel to my post-shave-routine today. Good news is: one more soap to cross off the to-buy-list ;)

Other than that: two passes WTG and X/ATG with a higly satisfactory result. I might just skip tomorrow's shave, so there's just one more left for NOVember. I'll write my summary on Monday - but I can tell you right now that it was a fun month and that I have learned a lot :happy088:
