So today's shave was a special one. For my birthday (which is not until the 29th) my mom got me some things i had mentioned to her in the past week or so i wanted to try out. Well she got them for me and surprised me with them today. EJ badger brush Feather HI blades Taylor sandalwood in the tub Up to this point I had been shaving with barbasol, personna blades and no brush. Believe me when I tell you I REALLY enjoyed my shave tonight. Hot shower Taylor sandalwood Feather HI blade EJ badger brush Gillette slim adjustable Nivea sensitive AS balm Since most of this i got early for my birthday today i was a most excellent shave. I went WTG and XTG on face and just a single WTG pass on my neck because this routine leaves me smooth, not BBS but nice and smooth, with no irritation or burn. I am stoked about my new tools and am since im a woodworker im drawing up some plans now for a "shaving shelf" with razor, brush, and towel hanger as well as an area to place my soap, blades, and AS. For some reason i cant post pics from my phone so ill share those when i get back home from vacation. (Out of town at my folks place till sunday)
I have both and have been doing a 30 day focus on the Feather AC. I have learned a lot this month and recommend doing a focus on it. A repeater isn't that much different than other injectors. It didn't take me but a couple of shaves to figure out the repeater. The Feather was a challenge!
I also wanted to add, im coming into this month at the tail end so im waiting for next month to kick off BUT my focus from now through next month will be technique and dialing in my gillette adjustable. Since I'm new to DE shaving (week and a half now) i figure that learning my razor and getting my technique down will be my first focal points.
It is a CJB. I have a couple of straights that a few months ago were going to be my focus for December, as I am off this month a bunch. Everyone is pushing towards the pain sticks. I may have to do it.
Nov 27 Focus shave 27 Czech and Speake 88 day two, directly to the SR test. It is very similar to both AoS tallow and Valobra so direct to the straight razor. Today it was my Dove Bismarck 2. I made lots of wet lather and it was everywhere. The 4 passes went smoothly and no blood. I did not expect any irritation but there was a small reaction to the alum and I was oh so close to BBS. HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL!!! I hope everyone had a happy holiday in the US and ask our overseas members had a good day today! Mine started with my usual for this month. Razor – 1974 Gillette SS Blade – GSB Brush – AOS Badger Soap – Gada Cool Mint shave cream Post - Cold water splash, Witch Hazel and aqua velva ice blue A great shave this morning! Drive to my fiancee's relative's house for a traditional Thanksgiving feast of turkey and dressing and all the fixins. Watched the parade and think we managed to find my daughter who danced with the very last huge group of dancers right before Santa came in for anyone who happened to be watching. Next off to some other of my fiancee relatives for dessert. Hung out a while and ended the day at my parents for our traditional nontraditional dinner. My parents do steak and crab legs instead of turkey because I always end up having turkey for lunch. I will never complain about our nontraditional version though! A great day and I am so very thankful for my daughter and so proud of her. Thankful for family and the amazing times together. And thankful for the 30dc and ask the wonderful people here at TSD.
Sounds like a great day. Glad your daughter was OK through today. I did watch the parade, and it was a great show. You must really be proud of your daughter.
Well once you get the technique down they really are pretty nice razors. The pain is mostly in the beginning. Just remember you have to focus on the shave even more than normal when using them, although I think that's the same for straights too. Very little margin for SSE's (stupid shaving errors) when the safety features aren't there.
Congrats to your daughter for being in the parade! And I love the sound of that nontraditional dinner. Crab is a weakness for me, well seafood in general but crab in particular. Please, feel free to invite me along next year or anytime. I know it's a long trip but I'm willing to make that sacrifice. Just saying. Happy Thanksgiving!
Any day is a food parade down south. LOL When I lived in Alabama I remember learning the hard way that fried chicken is a required breakfast item on a buffet. And grits. Bacon and eggs, sausage, all of that? If you're late getting that out for the start of breakfast they'll wait. They wait for NO fried chicken in Huntsville, Alabama. I got cussed out by the leader of the Gideon's group that met at the buffet every Saturday morning for failing to put the chicken out. Serious business that chicken. So steak and crab on Thanksgiving? Why not. Wrap it in greens and deep fry it all and there'll be peace in the south 'til the cows come home.
Tell me about it. My brother dry rubbed and smoked 2 large turkey breasts to go with baked ham, dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, hot buttered rolls, cranberry sauce, Watergate salad, strawberry pretzel salad, buttermilk pie, peach pie and a birthday cake for my brothers niece. All washed down with sweet tea.
Thanks! We were fortunately to be able to make it happen. It is definitely one of my favorite dinners of the year. This year my mother went so overboard on the crab legs and I grilled so many New York strips (in honor of the parade of course) that we could have had an army over for dinner. Of course I never complain about leftovers!
Well I'm calling it a month on the 30/day focus. I think I've accomplished what I set out to do. I've retrained my muscle memory to be gentler and have better angles of attack. I've also learned that part of my neck has a different growth direction than I originally thought. Working with that info I've been able to get blood free shaves on the lower neck area for the last week and a half or more now. Thanks for the tips and advice guys
