Lots of love (and hate) for Arko sticks lately, but for those who don’t like the drying effect, or the smell, I’ve been getting good results with the Arko shave creams. A nickel sized dollop rubbed between the palms, applied to the face and worked up with a damp brush occasionally tip dipped in water make a nice, slick, creamy lather. They have various scents, but I’ve been using Extra Fresh. May have to try a different one now that it’s finally cooling off.

    November 11 SOTD:

    Razor: Barbasol Floating Head
    Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless
    Brush: PAA The Green Ray
Lather: PAA Doppelgänger Ox Blood Label
Aftershave: PAA Doppelgänger Ox Blood Label

Another great shave with the CK6 base, and I would confirm the post shave feel is among the better soaps I have tried. Definitely worth a look for those interested. The Barbasol Floating Head was smooth this morning, giving me a shave just shy of BBS. I hope everyone has a great day!

I made a note to order some of the Arko cream in the near future. I've never tried it but keep hearing good things about it.

hello folks ,sunday morning remembrance day shave..
put together something to honor this day,
1952 canadian military set, nos so probably surplus from the korean era,40s/50s canadian rubberset, wilkinson blade modern..
modern williams, and av original sport .from what i here is in canada only at present but was available since the 50s..
while i am trying to put together a shave set my grandad would have used during ww2( brit flat bottom probably) i still have to find abrit service set, brit 40s brush and a brit soap available for use during this time period and accessible to RAF personnel during the war. more research to be done and then finding said products..if anyone has ideas i am all ears , thank you.
nice 3 pass shave, dfs ,no drama with this set up. yes i used an nos set but thats what its for..will be in good shape when i pass it along..
i love the av sport, i remember my grandad wearing this or something very similar in the late 70s/ early 80s when i lived back in england for a few years..wore it proudly today at the remembrance day ceremony in town.. take care all, gary 20181111_100008.jpg

November 11, 2018- NOthing But Techs, Remembrance Week

Razor: Pre-War Canadian Gillette Tech from Khaki Set
    Blade: 7 o'Clock Permasharp Stainless (1)
    Brush: VdH Boar
    Soap: Williams
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Today is Veteran's/Remembrance Day, the commemoration of the end of WWI and a day to honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice while in service to their countries. I have a WWI US Khaki set with a 1918-dated razor and, normally, I would bring it out for today's shave. Because I am focusing on Tech razors this month, however, for today and the rest of the week, I will be using Tech razors which would have been used by the troops during WWII.

First up is a Canadian pre-War Tech in a Khaki Set.
    IMG_0284.JPG IMG_0285.JPG
I picked this up a few months ago. The blade bank is not original to the set but was a generous PIF from Fuzzy. The case is well worn, but the razor is in beautiful condition. There are no marks to indicate its original owner so I don't know if he was a hero at Anzio or spent his service in a mess hall in Halifax. Either way, whoever you were, thank you for your service.

As for the shave itself, like some others of you, I opted for a traditional boar brush and a traditional soap, Williams. All told, it was a smooth, effortless shave, near-enough BBS with no issues. TBH, I'm not sure I get what makes the Canadian Tech different from its US counterpart. Some say that it is more aggressive though I'd go with "efficient" instead. It does seem to have a certain additional solidity, though I am a loss as to where that comes from. An excellent tool nonetheless.

I was initially concerned that it might be inappropriate to use a Canadian WWII razor to honor this day. After yesterday's national moment of disgrace, however, I realize that I had nothing to worry about. Our Canadian neighbors are far more gracious than we ourselves can be at times.

Thank you to all you who have served and/or serve now.
