Keith, as a long-time Fat user I would make the following lathering suggestion. Bloom the Fat, then hit it with your brush like it owes you money until you have a thick paste on the brush. Apply the semi-dry paste to your face. Now the Fat is a very thirsty soap. Wet the brush and begin face lathering, continuing to add water until you have the lather you like. For a straight shave I tend to go a bit overboard as I like a thin, slick lather. I don’t add quite as much water for my dome shaves. My son used to dislike the Fat until he learned to build a decent lather with it. The skin benefits of continued use are well worth the additional effort to build a good lather. I hope this helps!

Great detailed report as usual, Barry! May I ask what “horrible, callous, illegitimates” are? I suspect it’s a British to American idiomatic thing.

Beautiful photo with your usual color-themed staging! Great shave, Jim! I understand that you generally need to move quickly through your morning shaves. Do you ever foresee after your entry into the MOLC an open edge shave in your future? Just curious?

    Thanks, Jeff!

As for open edge shaving, been there, done that. I progressed to where I could get DFS on two passes with touch up, no blood, no irritation. I didn't enjoy it as much as my other razors. Not saying never but as of now it's doubtful.

I took a quick look at the book intro, Jeff, and it's a hoot! Thanks for the recommendation.

We used statistical process control at my workplace. Used the right way, it was a good tool. The best practitioners were the ones who had good horse sense, the ability to ask great questions and were then able to *shut up and listen* to the customers and the folks in the trenches that actually did the work, followed by the ability to measure and act on the right parameters.

If somebody showed me a fancy chart on their computer screen, they were amateurs at best. If somebody produced a hand-drawn chart on a wrinkled sheet of paper with comments scribbled all over it, they got my attention. If the chart had coffee stains on it, they got extra credit.

Hope you have a great day, Jeff!

Face lathering today was pure luxury. It is hard to do better than SV lathered with a badger cloud like Thater. I did pull out an alum block to help with skin stretching. I don't normally do a lot of skin stretching since I can usually get everything in 3 passes. I will say that it made a big difference in the shave today. My lower right neck was done without touch ups and my chin required less buffing. Overall a wonderful BBS shave. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Gorgeous photo and kit today, Clint. Skin stretching with alum on my finger tips has been a game-changer me.

Thank you Charlie. I will keep doing it with the Pils but I really don't like the way the alum feels on my face.

The National edge is still keen and while I did re-open yesterday's set-down,
I was still rewarded with a very fine shave.

Finished the shave with another Caribbean Bay Rum: St. Johns.
Potency and sillage is not that of Meehan, but the scent is typical and refreshing.
Takes, however, a double-splash to achieve the bay rum bang Primo begs for.

Thanks, Charlie! I used to run the polls at ORC in Princeton from 1988 - 2012 when I retired. I was an adjunct Professor throughout my working days and always found that it was the real world anecdotes that enlivened and brought dry, arid stat principles to life. Deming’s genius was his ability to bring SPC to life in much the same way. I was fortunate to have both him and John Tukey as mentors in graduate school.
