If you're lucky, your Kent BK4 might just shed a few hairs for a bit and then quit. The brush equivalent of a small temper tantrum. Good tip on the unrefined shea butter. Thanks!
Thanks for the largely undeserved compliment, Clint. I can work out a decent composition for a photo, but using the built-in camera in my BlackBerry PlayBook, the fine focus ability just isn't there. I will eventually have to start using a proper digital camera, upload to my desktop computer, and then post from there... I find I can have a true BBS with a "traditional" 3 pass shave - and enjoy a healthy dose of razorburn with it - or do only two passes and get a superior DFS with no irritation. So I usually do two passes and what I get is what I get. And what I get now is a LOT better than what I got before I started with the 30DC in October 2016. (I have been with the Crew for exactly one year this month...)
Thank you Clint. Sure is fun when you can enjoy a shave. Thank you Charlie. It looked nearly this good when I found it in the wild. As much as I enjoy others, it could be my desert island razor. I thought I'd polished it up until I looked hard at that previous photo. Gave it a little more attention with a specialized brush tonight. It's getting better!
No question that it is VERY limited... I have made all of one so far. Besides, Charlie, I can't even seem to remember your name sometimes...
Same thing happened with my NEW LC, Rick. Saw green between the teeth in photos that I couldn't see 'in real life'. Beautiful pic, though!
OCtober!!! October 9 Let's have some FUN!!!!!! Razor - Pacific DE - the Dollar Tree Special Blade - (2) Soap - Proraso Red (Sandlewood) Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Post - Alum Second shave with the Pacific el-cheapo razor and blade. I switched soap to Proraso Red which I haven't used in ages. The sandlewood scent is certainly not bad but....after using Stirling Sandlewood a number of times I can definitely detect a bit more of an artificial scent to the Proraso. The ingredient list is much longer so I'm sure the extra stuff in it tends to take the scent a different direction. Not a complaint, necessarily, but proof that the enablers who took me into the rabbit hole have definitely created a bit of a monster. As far as the shave goes I am rather surprised and happy to say that it was as smooth and nice as yesterday with the same quiet alum. This razor is proof that even at the ultra-cheap level it is possible to get nice shaves. The finish was a solid DFS and the blade didn't give any indication of slowing down so I'm sure it will go three shaves, maybe more. If I was going to compare the feel of the blade to one I know I would put it in the same range as the Ladas or Nacet. All stainless blade like they are, similar feel and I can't say it performed any worse, really. Now, at $1 for razor and 5 blades you're paying about 20 cents per blade so it is more expensive than the Russians in bulk. But for a quick and local solution it isn't bad at all. Blues now 3-0!! Just thought you'd like to know.
Getting with the OCtober theme: Today I used my DOC Evolution with a Super Iridium blade. Four passes, zero irritation and a whisker short of epic. I am very impressed with B&M again. It made a very wet slick lather, can't wait to try it with a straight. Irritation A+ Closeness A Razor: DOC Evolution -Iridum Super Brush: Omega Pro Pre: Nivea Soap: B&M AS: Fine Snake Bite, Speick ASB Scent: Amouage Memoir Man
Us too. We just started getting frost last week. Not going to be a very pretty fall though. Leaves are dropping without really turning much.
Maybe try giving it a wash/conditioning and a good combing out? Sometimes my brushes get too dry. It seems like the hairs get brittle and will break off a few. The spa treatment seems to cure it until winter rolls around again. It also doesn’t seem to happen unless one sits unused for a while.
10 OCtober This blade is officially done. Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: Omega Boar Brush 81064 Soap: Pipe Smoke, Uncle Jon's SS Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (8) Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse, OSMA Alum block and Virgin Island Bay Rum After Shave, Clubman Photo: I haven't used my boar in awhile and have been thinking about putting it in a cup of water to help with the brake-in period. I read here that if you put a brush in a cup of water then stick it in the fridge for three days it will come out with split ends. I had the brush pretty broke in before but it had to much loft for me and was just too floppy, so I gave it a hair cut. Now I have to start all over again trying to break it in. I recently ordered this bottle Clubman Bay Rum from the interweb. This morning I tried pairing it with a soap and came up Uncle Jon's Pipe Smoke. I think the scents are close enough to complement one another. The AS has a very clovey, cinnamon smell. The Wife thought it smelled of "Big Red Gum". Now on to the reason we are all here, "The Shave". Today was day 8 on this blade. The blade gave just as close a shave as it has before, still not BBS, but no where as smooth. As a matter of fact this shave was as rough as the first shave with the blade. Tonight I will put a new blade in it then strop it twenty times. So as there is no questions as to how those twenty times will be counted, 1 time is the back and forth motion down the length of the strop.
