Today: Gillette Black Beauty Adjustable Rapira Platinum Lux Maggard Plissoft Barrister and Mann Latha Taiga Brut Another stellar shave. The Taiga hangs around for a while. That's a good thing. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
My wife was born in and India. When we finished our basement we added a walk in pantry. Today it looks like a 3rd world grocery store.
October 9 Gillette Super Speed Red Tip (A3) Feather (4) Kent BK4 Silvertip C.O. Bigelow shave cream Thayers Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Trumper's Sandalwood Skin Food Two passes on two days of growth, and I'm near BBS. I've been getting four shaves from my Feather DE blades lately, but I can tell the blade edge starts to fade on the fourth shave. I've been on a C.O. Bigelow kick for the past couple of weeks. It's a top notch cream, and the menthol scent is a nice wake up call in the morning. My trusty Kent BK4 is starting to lose a couple of hairs each time I use it. I abused it on an extended trip earlier this year. I didn't soak it before use, and then I sometimes packed it away while it was still damp. I just really like this brush (size, face feel, and performance), so I may have to eventually replace it. I recently picked up a new brand of unrefined shea butter. It is smoother and has a much more neutral (less nutty) scent than the brand I previously used. It is a terrific after shave moisturizer, and I never have to think about a shaving soap or cream not having a good post shave skin feel. I also use it to keep my hands from cracking in the fall and winter. It's good stuff and relatively cheap compared to most moisturizers. I hope you all are having a great week.
If you're lucky, your Kent BK4 might just shed a few hairs for a bit and then quit. The brush equivalent of a small temper tantrum. Good tip on the unrefined shea butter. Thanks!
I can identify, Clint. We purchase large cans of our favorite ground coffee on Amazon. It went on sale recently, and I purchased 7 or 8 cans. That's probably an 18-month supply. Many years ago, the local supermarket sold Raisin Bran for $1 a box. I purchased 40 boxes and a large multi-roll package of TP. My Bride refused to go through the checkout line with me. We still laugh about this...although my Bride wasn't laughing at the time. (I'm glad I already have my CT. )
Thanks for the largely undeserved compliment, Clint. I can work out a decent composition for a photo, but using the built-in camera in my BlackBerry PlayBook, the fine focus ability just isn't there. I will eventually have to start using a proper digital camera, upload to my desktop computer, and then post from there... I find I can have a true BBS with a "traditional" 3 pass shave - and enjoy a healthy dose of razorburn with it - or do only two passes and get a superior DFS with no irritation. So I usually do two passes and what I get is what I get. And what I get now is a LOT better than what I got before I started with the 30DC in October 2016. (I have been with the Crew for exactly one year this month...)
Rick, your NEW LC is a beauty. It is one of my all time favorite DE razors. OC razors sure do have a lot of hard-to-reach areas. I clean the nooks and crannies of my razors with a toothbrush, toothpick, and maybe even a soak with Scrubbing Bubbles. I bet the floss would work well too.
I have almost the same experience with my shaves. I will go for a nice two-pass shave any day of the week and avoid the irritation that sometimes comes with three passes. Participation in the 30DC over many months has helped me "optimize" those two passes. I'll bet that your two-pass shaves will continue to get incrementally better over time as you discover some new techniques and tricks. Congrats on your one-year anniversary with the 30DC! I'm sure @jtspartan will come along shortly with a limited edition shaving bowl to commemorate this incredible milestone.
Thank you Clint. Sure is fun when you can enjoy a shave. Thank you Charlie. It looked nearly this good when I found it in the wild. As much as I enjoy others, it could be my desert island razor. I thought I'd polished it up until I looked hard at that previous photo. Gave it a little more attention with a specialized brush tonight. It's getting better!
No question that it is VERY limited... I have made all of one so far. Besides, Charlie, I can't even seem to remember your name sometimes...
Same thing happened with my NEW LC, Rick. Saw green between the teeth in photos that I couldn't see 'in real life'. Beautiful pic, though!
OCtober!!! October 9 Let's have some FUN!!!!!! Razor - Pacific DE - the Dollar Tree Special Blade - (2) Soap - Proraso Red (Sandlewood) Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Post - Alum Second shave with the Pacific el-cheapo razor and blade. I switched soap to Proraso Red which I haven't used in ages. The sandlewood scent is certainly not bad but....after using Stirling Sandlewood a number of times I can definitely detect a bit more of an artificial scent to the Proraso. The ingredient list is much longer so I'm sure the extra stuff in it tends to take the scent a different direction. Not a complaint, necessarily, but proof that the enablers who took me into the rabbit hole have definitely created a bit of a monster. As far as the shave goes I am rather surprised and happy to say that it was as smooth and nice as yesterday with the same quiet alum. This razor is proof that even at the ultra-cheap level it is possible to get nice shaves. The finish was a solid DFS and the blade didn't give any indication of slowing down so I'm sure it will go three shaves, maybe more. If I was going to compare the feel of the blade to one I know I would put it in the same range as the Ladas or Nacet. All stainless blade like they are, similar feel and I can't say it performed any worse, really. Now, at $1 for razor and 5 blades you're paying about 20 cents per blade so it is more expensive than the Russians in bulk. But for a quick and local solution it isn't bad at all. Blues now 3-0!! Just thought you'd like to know.
