Thanks Jason! I'm not sure what originally came in the bottle. Made by J.R.Watkins, it could have possibly been made as far back as 1920. When I see these type for a buck or less I buy them if they look like they can be cleaned and used again. The screw cap is from Addams Extracts - food flavoring. This one holds about 1-1/2 ounces (50ml).
I enhanced it with witch hazel, aloe and some vitamin I enhanced it with witch hazel, aloe and vitamin E, plus added some extra menthol.
My grandmother always kept 3 Watkins products on hand. Vanilla extract, lemon extract, and liniment. A Watkins salesman made the rounds door to door every couple of months.
OCtober!!! October 11 Razor - Gem Micromatic Open Comb Blade - (2) Soap - Tabac Brush - Stirling Synthetic Post - Alum Time for the second shave on the MMOC. After last night's somewhat rough finish, irritation wise, I was eager to see if I learned anything. Apparently I did. Tonight's shave was quite comfortable and the alum was a lot quieter at the finish. The finish, by the way, was very nearly the baby. So close. The key was knowing the angle instead of having to find it, and never letting it change while letting the weight of the razor handle the work. Light touch, right angle, great Tabac lather from the big Stirling brush and the end result was great. The feel during the shave was also great and the audible on the blade was quite nice. Can't complain any about this one. Makes you think that if Gem had been better at marketing if they could have been more dominant. The shaves I get with their razors are always great. A day closer to Friday. Hope your Wednesday treated you well!
Delta Echo did a fantastic job on that razor. It really pops in your photos. I just got a shipping notice from Delta Echo that my trio of Gillette adjustables are on their way back home and I'm practically pacing the floor now waiting...
I remember that you had your local shop order those particular bikes in for you or something. Bromptons from England, aren't they? It sounds like they have been working well for you?
Thank you. A lot of my photos are on the phone but this week's photos were taken with a 35mm DSLR. I have been playing with the settings trying to alter the depth of field.
OCtober12, 2017 Timeless OC 0.95mm with Triad Ti Aristocrat Feather Shavemac LE with DO1 2 Band Flat Top Reef Point Test Depth Witch Hazel with Menthol Cool Water EDT Another great shave this morning. Everything just seemed to work well together. I went with a 3 pass shave followed by touch ups along my jaw line and lower right neck. Unfortunately I did not catch the baby but I did manage to give him a good scare. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.
Thanks, yes they are Bromptons. We enjoy riding them, and it is handy that two bikes fit in the trunk of our car. We can take them anywhere without having to worry with a bike rack. It's difficult to tell from the photo, but the bikes are very solidly built. It is fun riding by people and watching them do double-takes because the bike with a big guy like me riding it looks a bit strange. They are not for everybody, but we thought this would be a fun way to incorporate more exercise into our daily routine.
SOTD October 12, 2017 Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Schick Razor: Schick G8 injector Brush: Artisan badger Lather: Wilkinson Sword shave stick Post: Witch hazel, Speick aftershave WTG, touch up Another good shave from a shave stick. The key for me is "less is more" as I rub it on my face. I think there was too much soap and not enough vigorous lathering in the past and I had sticky, poorly hydrated lather. I've gotten much better at the lathers from the sticks and have enjoyed them this month. Today's shave was no exception. Smooth and comfortable and nice results. I'm still evaluating the Stirling pre-shave soap but will admit that my shaves this month so far have been excellent. Perhaps this is a product worth keeping in my routine? Time will tell. Enjoy your day!
Wonderful photo Perry. Like you getting the right amount of soap on my face was the key to shave sticks.
Surprisingly pleased with my shave this morning. It felt good enough even after the first pass, but I went ahead with the second anyway. Lee's pucks at WSP are smaller than other "large" brands, but as I've been saying, he makes up for it by cramming the soap right up to the top, thus spillage becomes easy.
