    Gillette Single Ring
    Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (6)
    TFS Mastro Miche
    Ever-Ready 200T
    Canoe AS

This shave was the second part of the shootout between the Gillette Single Ring and the Leresche #34. Both have reputations for being aggressive and willing to spill blood for any minor laps in concentration. Tonight's shave was very nice and I didn't feel threatened by the Single Ring at all. Overall both razors are amazing shavers capable of delivering the baby in short order. Neither felt like it was going to bite, riding the cap. Overall I have to tip my hat to the Leresche, it just felt a bit more comfortable in the hand and a little less edgy on the face.

This was also my first time using Mastro Miche. The scent was very light and to me mainly smelled of oak moss, vetiver, and bergamot (which is nowhere near the official scent description which I will post below.) A heavy load gave me a bowl of creamy, slick, shiny lather (not quite super goop). I felt the performance of the soap was good, but did not really stand out in any particular category. I finished of with a splash of Canoe, which is very similar to Skin Bracer and Clubman though a little more refined.

    Mastro Miche scent description:
Head: black currant, plum, pineapple, citrus green
Heart: sandal wood, black orchid, white calla
Base: cashmere wood, musk, cedar wood, Tonka bean

    Have a great day friends!

Excellent photo today, Andrew, and a great writeup. Your Gillette Single Ring looks absolutely stunning. Is it in original minty condition or did you have it replated somewhere?

I appreciated the description of Mastro Miche. It has enabled me to scratch this particular soap off my list of ones to buy, which can also be helpful.

The nice thing about Neal's request for votes is that he is bound to win no matter which way the vote comes out! Original vintage gold plating or a Delta Echo custom scheme -- can't lose either way!

Thank you, John. That is the original finish on the razor after cleaning it up and removing the tarnish:

Thank you, Andrew. I am back to 3-4 shaves and done on blades. In reality, I put a blade in a razor and throw it away when I change razors.
Great picture! The Single Ring looks great.

Thanks for the link. I had never noticed that thread before. Some good ideas in it. Did you use the toothbrush and Mother's Mag on that Gillette or did you use another method?

On the silver razors I like to use Weimans metal polish (I found it at the grocery store) and a soft cloth. I like the Mothers better on razors with a nickel finish, its better at getting out stubborn stains and discoloration in the nickel. The Mothers also works a treat to remove the remnants of failing gold wash on razors like the New's, I kinda like the bare copper and brass look.

Thursday October 19 - Odds and Ends October

Supply Provision Single Edge injector on two-dot plate / Personna (6ish)
Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush
My Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap
Alum and styptic pencil and Portland General Store's Willow Toner

I plan to finish October using my injectors to use up the blades now in them. I have one or two days left on the SP before I should bank its blade. Today I got careless about skin stretching on my first pass as I shaved my upper lip and the razor rewarded me with a weeper. Actually, more like a nick - there's a triangular bit of skin visibly missing now. It bled like a stuck pig through the rinse, relather, cold water rinse, alum rub and second cold water rinse and didn't finally quit until a lengthy rub with the styptic pencil. It's been quite awhile since I got myself that solidly with a razor.

Otherwise the shave was good. I did not badly with the lather with the SOC boar today and two passes with the razor gave me at least a DFS+. I finished off with an invigorating cleanse with the musty barky vinegar.

Tomorrow I will do a final shave with this blade in the SP and then move on to the Pal adjustable for three or four days. I will end the month with the Schick E2.

That’s very true! Ya know...since we’re supposed to be enablers here, maybe he should get another similar razor, then do both a replate and a Delta Echo!

    Making Super Goop Lather.

I know this video has been posted several times on this thread and others but I've been thinking about it today and wanted to start a conversation about the process and perhaps some possible pitfalls that might prevent you from actually achieving this highest quality of lather. The last two shaves that I had I was not able to achieve as creamy of a lather as I would have liked. The soaps that I used for those shaves were Italian Barber Amici and TFS Mastro Miche. I'm wondering if the technique used to load the brush can have a major impact on the quality of lather. For instance I generally use a lot of pressure while loading, filling up the knot with soap all the way to the handle, and actually only load for about 10 seconds. I'm wondering if a gentle loading process where the knot doesn't splay as much and is allowed to gradually pick up soap could result in a creamier lather. Also I am wondering if it it possible to introduce too much air into a lather by over splaying the brush while building the lather. Is is possible that not every soap is even capable of achieving such a high quality lather ? Do knot characteristics play a larger role than assumed and must the lathering technique be altered based on the brush? I know some of you have adopted this technique after seeing the video, have you been able to achieve this type of dense creamy lather with every soap? Calling Jared @PickledNorthern , It seems like you might have the most experience with this technique. Can you provide some insight ?

He he. I don't remember using those exact words, but I'm certainly not saying I didn't. It takes a very light touch to set the razor down, and I have a couple of landing marks on my chin right now. Try setting it down spine first, and rolling it down gently to the edge, then lifting the spine to the right angle.

I'd let Delta Echo do it in a custom color scheme. Perhaps a St. Louis Blues or Cardinals theme.
