I like getting up early on the weekend. With everyone else sleeping, the house is peaceful and I can just quietly enjoy my morning routine. I do have a rare weekend client meeting later this afternoon so I appreciate the relaxing start even more. The CH2 Synthetic is just a lather making machine at the expense of tearing through soap. The Reef Point Test Depth never stood a chance against the "Soap Destroyer" as it was whipped into a rich slick lather. Sticking with a traditional 3 pass shave followed by touchups along my jawline and neck ended in a near perfect shave just missing the baby. The Personna 74 has smoothed out nicely and continues to deliver great shaves. A splash of Myrsol Agua Balsamica and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Great photo and setup Jason! Love that razor...and the brush, of course!
I'm convinced that weepers are just to keep us humble. I'll have a series of shaves without any, then for whatever reason - BAM! - a shave with several. It kinda takes the wind out of your sails. Fortunately, there's always another chance of a great shave tomorrow.

@clint64 - How is Maya doing Clint? I hope she is recovering quickly, and enjoying some pampering in the process.

Maya is actually doing great. Really better than we had a right to expect or hope for. She dropped the pain meds yesterday at 3 pm since she didn't like the way they made her feel. We are down to anti inflammatory meds 3 times a day which help some with the residual pain. I think she is enjoying the pampering and milking it for all its worth. ;) Of course as the youngest daughter, she had mastered that art long ago. At least where dad is concerned. :D

That is fantastic news Clint! I will continue to keep her in my thoughts...no doubt other Denizens will too! Just keep on delivering the snacks, etc. and keep the pampering up. After all, someday down the road you'll want her to return the favor! ;)

A much better shave today than yesterday. I have 3+ Rise's left(that is, 3 plus the one I'm working with now). I want to try to stretch them out as long as I can. With my shave soaps, I should be able to do that. But of course I like the shave soaps, too :).

I generally spend a lot of time making my lather that way, I’ve never timed it, but I would say three to five minutes (??) depending on the size of the brush. I’ll time it this morning and see.

So when I do that, I’m not loading the brush per se, but building lather on the puck. It seems that the more time you spend, the more saturated the brush becomes (duh) with workable lather, and even tames difficult to splay brushes (Chubby Synth for example). I definitely use a softer approach on the puck than harder, and do think it makes a creamier lather. I started that because of being OCD about mashing brushes, but find a better end result.

I dont think there is a lot of opportunity to incorporate air into it when you use that method. As I swirl on the puck, as soon as it looks pasty, I add water, maybe five repetitions or so, then the lather starts to build and work up into the brush. I keep adding dribbles until the brush is full.

I don’t see that the brush makes much difference in the end result of the lather, just the amount of time you have to spend building it, and choosing brushes sized to the soap container of the day. I do it with all kinds of brushes and get the same result with the same soap. I think the soap pays more of a role.

I do not think all soaps are equal when it comes to that method. Some just can’t tolerate the amount of water and break, or some simply create a volume of lather so quickly they almost aren’t conducive to it. Amici comes to mind as having both of those problems, but it has been a long time since I used it: Too much lather, too fast, that doesn’t like a lot of water. Route 66 is an example of a good soap that I haven’t been able to dial in using that method. I tend to get disappearing lather. That is a soap I reserve for old fashioned load the brush and face lather days.

I definitely think the longer the amount of time spent, slowly working in water, makes for a slicker, shinier lather. I’m also not sure everyone would appreciate the end result, because I don’t go for much volume.

It is so nice getting back to the Dark Side. Part of the fun is the ritual of stropping the razor the night before. While this razor’s shave was comparable to the shaves I got with Eye-Gore the last five days, this one just felt right. I’m BBS and ready to take on the day.
