SOTD October 25, 2017 Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Schick Razor: Schick J1 injector Brush: Jayaruh #60 synthetic Lather: Soap Commander Influence Post: Witch hazel, Jeeves of Hudson Street Black Tea aftershave WTG, touch up Took a day off today to spend some time with my wife and little boy. We're going to a park for a birthday party this morning where various family kids can run around and play. Sometimes I just need a day away from all my kids at school to refocus on my family at home. My long hours this time of year are tough on them and me. But today will be a lot of fun! The shave was terrific. Amazing lather and easy shaving with the J1. Smooth and comfortable! @Bama Samurai - glad you enjoyed the Palmolive stick. I've found it to be an excellent soap in my shave stick focus this month. The blue Wilkinson Sword stick is equal in quality in my opinion. I like them both better than Arko. Great shaves and better banter in here as usual. Enjoy your day, everyone!
I had a feeling that might be the case. There comes a point where finding a different product is the only sensible thing to do.
Great looking razor. I bet you enjoy a different handle. I have found that simply changing a handle makes a bigger difference than I would have guessed. Great photo. That is a bummer about Gifts and Care. I guess they were able to get by on the rules for a while. You can see if tvbshaving will ship to Canada. Being able to hone and use the razor must add another level of satisfaction to shaving with a straight. Great picture Perry. Have fun with your family you.
Thank you Jason. The handle was actually made by Jurgen Hempel. I really should have noted that in the listing. I got the handle early in 2015 to lighten up the big Mongoose razor.
Honing is like golf. One day it’s fun and satisfying. The next day you want to throw your gear in the lake. I’m starting to have more good days than bad. This one was very satisfying
Beautiful razor, Doug! Nice combo in a good looking photo, Neal! Thats a fine looking New that pulls everything else in the photo together, Rick! Another great shot of the Red Tip, Charlie! I though I was starting to get my RAD under control... Great shot Clint, congrats on finishing off another one! I'm glad the "super goop" is working for you John! It is now my mission to get super goop every single shave! Love the single ring! Herself must be swooning over the Aramis! Great Photo Jason, That bowl seems larger then I thought it was. Congrats on nailing the edge on such a beautiful razor, Brain! Have a fun time, Perry! and terrific photo too!
Probably not, Andrew. The tub is no wider than 2 1/2" or so. A Stirling size tub would barely fit in it.
SOTN OCtober 24th Ericsson Open Comb Voskhod Proraso Red sandalwood SC Stirling 24mm Synthetic Fine Platinum I'm not sure how I feel about the scent on the Proraso red. During my youth I always remembered my grandfather having a brown bar of soap in the bathroom, later I would come to find out that the scent on that bar of soap was sandalwood. Proraso red smells nothing like that soap which was what I was hoping for. The Proraso smells more earthy with just a hint of the familiar sandalwood poking out from behind the scenes. The performance of the cream was fantastic though and I was even able to get it into a super goop consistency. I started with a fairly dry brush and put a good inch of the cream on the bristles, then without adding water I started to work the cream until it started to look dry. Then I added a few drops of water and continued this cycle until it was shiny and dense. Painting it on my face it was very smooth and creamy(go figure). In use it was very slick and I had no issues with glide. I haven't used a Voskhod in a while and I though I would give them another chance. My overall impression of them is still meh , I just prefer a slightly sharper blade, but they are light years better then the Chinese TianLi blades. In the end I had a DFS and found the woodsy pineapple core of the Fine Platinum to be a good companion to the sandalwoodish Proraso red. Have a great day my friends!
Thank you. I am a sucker for the barber pole razors. I have two now, this Aristocrat and an Aristocrat #66. Definitely the best looking razors I have, IMO.
I thought I had my RAD under control, too. I am still debating whether to try a NB18. After the wonderful success I had with NB17, I am not sure I want to set myself up for failure again.
