@clint64 - he was was of the originals back in January, and has been here each month since! Congrats on a great year with TSD!
OCtober 30 Day Focus -- Cadet Open Comb October 1 Razor – Cadet Open Comb Blade – Gillette Silver Blue Brush – VDH Board Soap – Stirling MITA Post - Cold Water Splash, Witch Hazel with EO added, and Old Spice AS Started with the MITA and the GSB because they have never let me down. The soap was excellent as always. Great thick lasting lather and the smell is just perfect! Note to self, you are running low so you need to buy more but don't tell the fiancee. Blade in, ready to shave, first pass of WTG on face and XTG on neck begun and . . . well, let's just say there is definitely a difference between my Lord L6 and the Cadet OC. Yep. Definitely a difference. I got bit. Cadet definitely bit me. No real blood, but it left a small mark. OK William, start over. Angle, remember the angle. This razor definitely reminds you to ride the cap. Cap against neck, start again. Slowly lower, hear the sound. Does not come off the cap hardly at all and we are there. Finish the first pass without further incident. Wow, this thing basically gave me a DFS- shave on the first pass. Lathered up, took my time and paid attention to angle, and finished the second pass. It gave me a DFS++ shave. I am not going to declare the baby on this one but it really did a great job once I slowed down, got that cap against the skin where it needed to be and paid attention to the angle. I will also note that this razor is significantly heavier than my Lord L6 and has a shorter handle. Both of those will take a little adjustment. All in all a great shave with just a not so subtle reminder to pay attention to the angles!!!
Awesome day one! You now see the difference in head geometry through experience. The fact that a razor is OC versus closed means little, it's the curvature of the cap and bar angle that determine razor aggressiveness. Also...if the Cadet head fits, try it on your Lord handle! Nothing wrong with that at all!
My excitement is getting the better of me. I think I'm going to shave with my Rolls Razor today. I had some extra time after my goals this month so I'm going to cheat today. waiting on the post to run first. might have a new brush in the box today.
Thanks @Bama Samurai for all the work you put into running this thread. Certainly has helped me become a better more thoughtful DE shaver.
First thing I did after the shave was try the handle, but no luck. I like the extra weight of the Cadet, so it is just the length difference. Love the way it shaves though, and that first pass (post biting) was great! Looking forward to the rest of this month with this razor!
Today is day one of my blade focus. My current favorite is the Feather blade. I have some blades lined up for three day runs in my EJ DE89 for comparison. First up is a blade I have never tried before. I am trying this blade because of the generosity of one of our members that sent me five to try. I have had these blades lying in wait through a thirty day SE focus and have been looking forward to trying them. My first blade in the focus is: (Drum roll please) SOTD EJ DE89 The Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (Blue) blade Arko stick AoS badger brush (This is my travel kit) I am very pleased with this blade. One of the downsides of the Feather blade is that they are sometimes a little rough on day one. This blade was very smooth on day one and I ended up with a two pass BBS with very little touch up. It's now been seven hours since this shave and I still have a DFS. I'm thinking this blade will be a keeper depending how it holds up for next two days. Have fun!
looks like those credit cards used in commercials to slide up and down the face to confirm it needs shaving
Let me join you as a cheater....I didn't use my Bay Rum AS like I said I would, but that will be happening very soon.
Not sure what to do this month. I may focus on menthol products, or have a what ever hits me on a daily basis. We'll have to wait and see.
let me correct that..Osage is the leader by 43-34, but I was right about voting for the lead choice, which at the time was Menthol.
