Great looking razors. I look forward to your thoughts on the iKons and how they compare to the New LC.
My OCTOBER FOCUS will not necessarily be on OC razors. I plan on mainly using my Old Type (family heirloom, Great Uncle) and my 1907 Single Ring. First up is my Single Ring. For 108 years old this razor is really nice; the silver is mostly still intact and there are no cracks in this baby's handle. It's light with the thinner 101 head (is that right?). I haven't used it much in the past, but when I did I found it to be milder than the thicker Old Type 102 head. Oh, and thanks to RufusT for the Gillette 7 O'Clock blades!
Paul, It's easy. Read the first post in the thread. Then pick what you'd like to focus on for the month. Some are going with the Open Comb (OC) theme for October, but it's up to you. Then tell us how you're doing, what you're learning, as the month progresses. Oh, and there is usually shenanigans happening throughout the thread, so a sense of humor helps! Above all, enjoy!
I did have a bad shave with arko and voskhod. I love arko but I haven't found a razor that likes voskhods and my face yet.
Here is the visual of this month. The straight I'll be using isn't here yet so I placemarked it with my ruined blade. Also I seem to have run out of Kai blades so I'll give the voskhod another shot since I still have 3 of them floating around in my blade box.
....and now that I got the help I need, I will hope to achieve the following beginning with tomorrow's shave and ending with that on Halloween morning: -try to finish off my Stephan Bay Rum so I can call November "What Will My New Bay Rum Be?" -improve my shaving tactic so as to quit doing 3-4 passes on specific areas -see if I can make sense as to why my Rise Super Foam kills the scent of my Stephan(whereas it doesn't harm that of my Gillette Cool Wave). Wish me luck, fellas
My focus will be trying to stay with a 3 pass shave, getting to know my Gillette Aristocrat, Super Speed. And have some awesome shaves with my Mongoose!
Ivan hasn't convinced you to try a shave with that ruined blade yet? Pfffffft! He's sleeping on the job.
I did shave with it regularly back in my teens and early 20s. Once I have hones and strops and such I'll probably try it just to see what happens. It only has a pinhole in the blade from rust.
My OCtober will include my Gillette New LC, Gem Micromatic, and my Phoenix Dbl OC. I will start it off with the Gillette. I am looking forward to an OCtober that is as good as SEptember. Due to some travel, I may also include the Schick Type C.
I'm back, back in Seoul and back in the 30 day focus. This month I will continue to focus on getting a closer shave with a straight razor. Last month I was able to get DFS most of the time, by the end of October I hope to have added my 4th pass, ATG and get at least 1 BBS by the end of the month. My ultimate goal is achieve the same level of irritation free BBS I get with my aggressive DEs. October 1 Focus Shave 1 Starting the month with a new to me razor, a used but in great shape Hart Steel 6/8 round point. I have a 7/8 French point Hart razor that I really enjoy so I jumped at the chance to pick up one with a round point. I am surprised how different the 7/8 and 6/8 feel, the 7/8 feels allot heavier and bigger, I prefer the 7/8 so someday I will need trade the 6/8 for 7/8 round point. The 6/8 is still a very nice shaving razor. The first 3 passes went great, it had been 36 hours since my last shave and that usually means I will get a great shave. No blood and no irritation so I did some touch up and attempted parts of a ATG pass. Put the alum to my face and no stinging, an irritation free shave. Final result DFS. This month I will grade my shaves, irritation A+, closeness B. Usually I vote for the cookies, but this month I went with #2. In the summer I get menthol-itis but in the fall I start to ween myself off the menthol.
