I decided to stick with the Gem razors today and moved the blade into my Dammy. The Damaskeene has a safety bar guard, but it has vertical teeth tall enough that the razor might as well be open comb. It also provides an excellent shave. Two passes and I am near BBS with no irritation.

I don't remember everything I did in OCtober. I shaved with a bunch of OC razors: my Fatip Grande and several Gillette Old Type, NEW LC, and New Improveds. Apart from one Old Type that regrettably had a warped top cap, all gave good shaves. To help the comparisons, I used the same blades, soap and brush for most shaves. I finished with some Gem SE OC models that I find less satisfactory.

I also spent much of the month using the Hendrix Classics Barbershop soap and balm and found them excellent. Along the way, I acquired and broke in two new synthetic brushes, an APShaveCo Flat Top and JR #320 fitted with an APShaveCo SynBad knot. I really like both brushes.

It was a good month. For November, I plan to be lazy and just use a Gillette adjustable. I will use soap samples, sticking with each until it's gone.

Nice, comfortable, 2 pass’er this morning. Pulled out the NEW as I realized that I had only used this fave for a few days this month. Everything did it’s job well and it was a welcomed ‘drama free’ shave after yesterday.

Had a super OCtober focus. Got at least 3 shaves each out of the Cooper MonoBilt, Gillette NEW SC, NEW LC, Old Type and the recently acquired New Improved ‘Bostonian’. Nice shavers all. I also had the opportunity to get a couple shaves in on an Aristocrat and Red Tip SS loaned to me by @Screwtape . Just a month of great razors. I didn’t ‘odds and ends’ soaps and splashes as much as I had hoped, but did pull a few lesser used combos out at the start of the month. I still haven’t worked out what I’m doing for November yet, but will definitely start the month with the Supply injector, also on loan from John.

I figured seeing it was my last chance to adhere to this month's open comb focus, I would oblige.
Let's start with the soap. I mentioned B&M Bay Rum yesterday, so it's fitting, that I would choose it today.
The major difference I found between this and Mike's is the B&M has Orange oil as an ingredient.
Mike's may have it too, but it is much more prominent in the B&M. I still find it pleasing and, as I mentioned
yesterday, no burn whatsoever.
Lovely, rich lather was produced with my M&F Beehive. This handle is terrifically ergonomic and the Finest Badger hair
is silky smooth. It holds a ton of lather; delivers it well and the fan knot is an eye-catcher. So much so, that I have
abandoned my search for a Varlet Beehive. The person, from whom I purchased this brush, bought a Varlet Beehive and, while it is a nice brush, does not care for the sharp edge at the top of the handle. (See photo)

Moving along...Time Out...
Ok, I am back.
I had put a tray of fresh Ghost Peppers (Bhut Jolokia), which I had grown this summer into the oven to dehydrate.
I am upstairs and my eyes were already starting to burn. If my wife returned with this caustic odor in the air,
well, let's just say that my über-shaving collection would be the least of my worries.
Broke out the American Harvester Food Dehydrator and set it up in the still-unfinished new room addition
to dry without marital fallout.
Where was I...oh, the shave.
Personna 74-multi-use blade once again and with the New LC proceeded to have an uneventful
3-pass BBS.
Meehan Bay Rum (what's up with that spelling ) was the perfect finish to a perfect month of excellent shaves.

I put the Blackbird up against my favorite vintage Gillette, the New SC. New blades in both razors as the old ones were feeling a bit tired. And since it is the last day of the month and my last chance to participate in Oleo October I decided to break out the Empire. This scent is based on Dior Sauvage and is absolutely amazing, it always gets a compliment from my wife. The Oleo Canard base whips up into a super creamy form and hold a good bit of water as it transforms into a super goop type lather.I lathered up my face and did the first pass, I noticed that I was able to achieve a much shallower angle with the New SC then with the Blackbird which resulted in a more comfortable first pass. At the end of my first pass Logan woke up and was fussing so I did a quick second pass cleaned up, splashed on the AS and went to see if I could get him calmed down and back to sleep. I eventually did get his back down and was out the door a little late. Upon inspection of the shave result after the fact the Blackbird was indeed a bit closer after two passes then the New, but the New felt a good deal smoother. In the end after two passes both sides were a respectable DFS and there is no detectable irritation. I am clean shaven and smell good, and feel better then yesterday. I suspect it will be a few more days before I'm back to 100% though. Have a great day my friends!

Pretty good shave this morning. I've just come to grips with the fact that Williams is inexpensive soap. It gets the job done but isn't going to provide a luxurious experience like many other soaps I own. So today will end the mini-focus with it. Not sure what I'll be doing tomorrow and the month of November, but I'll figure it out.

This shave was fine. Nice feel and efficiency from the B1 repeater and a chilly finish from the Blue Barbershop splash. That stuff has a ton of menthol packed in, and I like that.

OCtober Recap

I really enjoy using OC razors so this month is always one I enjoy. During the month I have used my three OC DE razors. I tried once again but I honestly prefer modern razors to vintage. During the month, I did rotate in 3 new brushes. A vintage Ever Ready C40 with a new synthetic knot, the Zenith Boar, and the Paladin Beehive. I am happy to say that all 3 will be staying in the den. As usual the best part of the month is interacting with members of the 30DC. The friendship and fellowship exhibited here is truly special. I look forward to participating next month.

Another month in the books. Thirty one shaves this month, twenty eight with open comb razors. I'm calling it thirty one great shaves.
I'm finishing the month with the Cooper Monobilt on loan from Andrew @Linuxguile. Fun razor that provided a great shave this morning. Thanks Andrew for the opportunity to get to know it.
November will start with the Blackland Dart and the PAA Switchback/TGN boar brush. I'm going to pick one of my Stirling samples and stick with it until it's gone. I would like to say this would be my No Variance setup for the month but if I pull the trigger on the Vector it's certainly going to get some use.
