A bit late replying here, but I agree that it's probably an E series. You can tell for sure by the patents on the head - if you look at your G, it has two patent numbers; the E only has one and may say "other pats. pending". But that definitely looks like an E Bakelite handle instead of a G plastic one.

Regarding the head opening, I enlarged the second photo and think I see the beginning of a split in the middle of the top of the spring lever. I think it has the notch in the spring that locks on a catch on the head to prevent the spring from being moved to open the head. I am almost certain that is a non-opening head on that one.

Thanks for indulging us with that fancy shave ceremony. Glad it went well. I thought the dish inscribed with a pentagram was a nice touch!

 

I appreciate the confidence Keith. But let's remember that that was just one person's opinion. I have never even held a Varlet. The Ranger is attractive, I must admit.

Let me get my Halloween shave up before we close October’s thread. I used all my OC razors this month, so I grabbed a neglecteted straight. Apparently they need more attention, because it bit me twice. Once in the thumb when I wasn’t paying attention, and once on my last pass when I set it down wrong. The shave was meh. I ended up adding Kiss My Face to the lather on the third pass, and that made it better but as much as I want to love this soap, it’s too much work for a not good enough lather. This one is out of the rotation.

Hope everyone had a good Halloween! We had a unicorn and an “Icky Bicky ‘Pider” at my house.

My first shave with the new Dovo Masters. (For those interested, SRD is running a 40% off their whole site, so you will not find a professionally honed Dovo at a better price). Anyway, I don't buy in to the theory that soaps are seasonal. However, there are a few exceptions, and Pumpkin Spice is one of those. I just don't see it as being anything but a fall scent, so as a result, this sample doesn't get much use. Too bad, because it's freaking awesome! In fact, for the kind of lather I like (slick, but with some body to it), the wide variety of really excellent, bold scents, and the value for the money, no one approaches Stirling. No one. After trying and reviewing many, many, soaps I keep coming back to Stirling and am never disappointed with the experience.

Well, because of various factors, there was no great finale to my OCtober as I ended up not shaving yesterday.

It was definitely an interesting month. Oddly, I never got around to using all my OCs though I did take a couple of runs at a new one that I hope to master in the future. I also, I hope, was able to share the joy through PIFs here and on another forum.
