I don't know what the answer is for that.
Maybe try a practice lather and deliberately over hydrate it to see how much water it can actually take to reach the breaking point. Maybe you're stopping short without realizing it.

I would add some table salt and maybe some milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) to increase the hardness of the water. I have never tried it. Water hardness is dependent on the number of electrolyes (ions) in the water. Disclaimer, just add a small amount because you want the salt to stay dissolved, otherwise, you will reach supersaturation and you will have undissolved salt on the bottom of the container.

Thanks guys. We had a blast today, and we learned a few things today.

Jeptha Creed is a family-owned craft distillery. The owner and master distiller was an engineering school-mate of both my friend and me. Her family has a relatively new operation, and they are selling 2-year-old bourbon and a few other products (to establish an income stream) while barrels of bourbon are aging in warehouse. They recently added a second shift, increased their production, and they are now producing 9 barrels per day. They are doing a few things with their recipe that make them unique, and it will be interesting to see how they progress over the next few years. The have a relatively small still and an even smaller still that allows them to perform trials. We sampled a vodka, bourbon, "white dog" (product straight off the still before it goes into a barrel - also called moonshine), and a brandy.

Bulleit is a much larger operation that is also becoming established. They were purchased by a conglomerate, and they're producing about 200 barrels per day. It was a more commercial-type of operation, and they're also growing. They are doing some interesting things with their mash bills and yeast strains and will eventually product several different "single barrel" products. We sampled three different bourbons (5- to 7-year, 10-year, 5- to 7-year unfiltered barrel strength, and a rye.)

In case you're wondering, the samples were small and spaced out over time. I gave up getting spaced out years ago. :) I'll sort out my photos and post a couple tomorrow.
WD-40! I knew I forgot something, Rick! Thanks! That's why you're the herder, and I'm just one of the cats 'round these parts.

Are you sure duct tape is not allowed on kids?

Thanks Terry. My buddy and I take a field trip every couple of months and always have a nice time and plenty of laughs. Distilleries are fun because we both like to look at all the processing equipment and sample the products. We go for mid-week tours in the off season, and we often get private tours...since the crowds hit mostly on the weekends and during the summer. We went to school together, worked together for 30+ years, and now we play together. Life is good. :)

Well, I just say that, for instance, Stoylin's 5.8's and, say, Williams, would be different(to me). I can manually handle a Williams(or a Burma Shave, as has been and IS my experience), but as for Stoylin, etc...I'd have to pick up the puck and that's it...the soap is ready to go. Great photo of Declan!!

Oh, I was just referring to the fact that I see some come in boxes and would have to go into a mug(or jar)whereas others come with lids where you just dive in(to the one with the lid)with the brush. Probably that's what confused me.

Oh, I have no doubt it's the same product, and I look forward to doing so someday. That's why I said it'd be a great "Throwback Thursday" shave-...1893 and "Natural lanolin".
