As always, the themes/etc. are not to be construed as an unbreakable absolute. Besides, anyone born in the month of October is granted a pass as that is the best month to be born in. (7th) :eatdrink047:

Ummm... July is the best month... Anyone born in July knows that and the rest of you are wrong. I don't have a lot of OC experience and I didn't really like the few I had tried, but I will give it my best shot. It's nice knowing the weak ones will still be allowed to hang out with the cool kids.

I am up at 4 AM tomorrow for early meetings. I might have to load my Muhle R41 with a Voskhod instead of a Feather. If I fall asleep while shaving I don't want to wake up dead from blood loss.

    Fat-tober Day 1

    Pre-shave soap weight: 201g

I have spent the last few days pondering what to use for the 1st shave of Fat-tober. Open Comb seemed reasonable given the theme but i don't have too many of them to pick and chose from. However, the 1930's 7 o'clock OC "New" just stood out from the pile. One of my my recent purchases came with a tuck of sealed, original 7 o'clock blades. Enough to spare a few for a shave and what better razor to pair them with! I have read about vintage blades being u/s but i wasn't breaking into a sealed box for them and i have plenty to spare so i thought i would give one a fling. To my surprise, the blades came double wrapped and the inner wax wrapper showed no real sign of age. The blade looked clean and rust free so this was a go for launch. Brush choice was difficult again, but i just keep coming back to my little V5. It has won my heart lol.
I used my dry-loading method for the soap. Soak the brush, shake well and then go to the puck in a slow, gentle and consistent motion. I have never had an issue with MWF and the soap was just itching to go at the first touch of the brush. However, a slow hand and just a few intermittent drops of water and the brush was bursting with thick, slick soap.
Blue-ming jokes aside, i think MWF is so keen to lather that blooming it may lead to P.L.S. This is a soap that needs a gentle trip to the brush. Get giddy with it or drown it and you might not get the soap load needed for success.
Taking the brush to the face, building up and wetting the lather as i worked the brush generated a fantastic, slick, hydrated and wonderful lather. Probably enough for 2 shaves, never mind 3 passes! A fantastic soap and a joy to use every time. The shave was super as well. The blade was not Feather sharp (not that i expected it to be) but it wasn't blunt either. A very usable edge and it had no problem with the 3 passes. Derby-esque if i had to rate the sharpness. The OC razor is itself, a gentle shave and reminded me much of my FB Tech. It is head heavy and wants you to let it do the work rather than vice-versa. I ran the razor and blade through very hot water at the end so that the blade could get as dry as possible. I am obviously concerned about CS corrosion with these old blades. I shall look for a clean edge for tomorrow and perhaps may hand-strop it before use. I am certainly going to try and get as many shaves out of it as i can.
No nicks, weepers, cuts or drama. a Damn Fine Shave!
    Happy shaving

    Good morning!

Excellent shave to start the day! Three passes for near BBS. Nearly silent alum.

Blackbird OC was chosen to kickoff OCtober. No good reason other than it came up first alphabetically. Terrific razor!

    Have a great day!
