Old silver mugs

    Sort of like this one? I just searched for "silver plate mug". It is not listed as a shaving mug. I can't imagine it is a drinking mug with that deep, ornate design near the rim. You would not get a good seal.

    Hm, could be a number of things. I normally try to look for easy tell-tale signs such as;
    - brush rest ontop of the mug, and/or
    - classic soap insert into the mug that normally, but not always, comes out separately.

    If a mug has neither of those I normally pass :)

    Thank you, good tips. More sensibly, my pockets are mug-ed and razor-ed out until the new year at least. I will use those ideas. And again, those are some really pretty mugs. Too bad re-plating is so awfully expensive and the cost is justified because of the difficulty.
