Simple question: Are open combs more aggressive than closed combs? That is my understanding.

 

In my experience, not necessarily. While there seems to be a stereotype that OC razors are aggressive, I very much like open comb razors and don't find them particularly different from closed comb razors. Maybe it's because they LOOK nasty with those teeth hanging out there.

Not really, It depends on the razor and the head geometry, For example IMO the Gillette Sheraton is so mild that its almost unusable. I also have a Merkur 15c that is an open comb and is also very mild. On the flip side there are plenty of safety bar razors that are very aggressive.

 

Perfect example ...new Yaqi DOC. Negative blade exposure and small blade gap.
